The bubble of ridiculously high gas prices has been created by speculations on "healthy" financial and commodity markets and by oil producers. But make no mistake about it, the age of really cheap gasoline is over.

Gone under a €1 per litre over here (Ireland), not sure how that translates to imperial gallon/dollars over there, but its nice to see 99 cent on the pumps in any case.:cheeky:

Just as a comparison: (
http://www.shell.nl/home/page/nld/products_services/on_the_road/fuels/fuel_pricing/cpp/tool/app_fuelprices.html) on the 12th of July this year, Shell's price for regular unleaded gasoline was 1.737 euro/liter. Right now it is 1.241 euro/liter.
That high price was 6.57 euro/gallon. That is 8.78 us dollars/gallon.
It is clear that europe tries to discourage people using too much gasoline. At the same time, the Americans are pissing away the world's oil reserves. I think I'm too old to really be bothered in the end. But I'm sure I will be there to see (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil) "peak oil" myself when it hits the world. Is gonna be fun ! It's gonna create a bigger mess than then the current financial crises, and even a bigger mess than the meltdown in the thirties. I'm gonna watch it with crisps and popcorn from the first row in the old people's home.

If you listen to experts from (
www.oildrum.com), you should be convinced we have already reached oil peak these years, more precisely we're standing somewhere on the plateau of the Hubbert curve. It is predicted that from about 2010-2012 the oil reserves will start dwindling, but it will be a slow thing and much will depend on the demand. However the trend is that the world is asking fo more quality oil in time when the most easily accessible reserves of quality oil are either exhaused, or nearly exhausted and struggle to push the same amount every day.
