Blah, blah, blah....don't care to read it or care about anything.
yeah. Pretty much what I expected.
From your post you apparently plan on caring about something at some later date. That about it?
No wonder the world is fucked up.

Oh please, end this enlightened citizen bullshit. The economic crysis was not caused by people buying HDTVs, and it will not be solved by same people stopping buying them.

okay, is admitting you don't know what's going on not better than pretending you do?
I feel kinda bad now that I have sort of the same attitude as IO: I can't possibly spend the time necessary to truly understand what's going on, so I focus on things that are immediately important, like an upcoming exam or the reasons why Mirror's Edge is cool
politics and economics are way too hard, you guys. I'm focusing on aesthetics.

I'm gonna be an english professor

Honestly I stay on top of it by reading the news headlines with my morning coffee, and I will admit that I would sometimes rather read the news (if I havn't for a few days) than break out a video game.
Of course I'm pretty much the only one I know that follows the headlines close, but it just bugs me that alot of people feel like they can't make a difference anyways, and during an election year!
The problem is if you have a don't know don't care attitude, the government can quite literally snatch your freedom out from under you, the freedom that alot of people have died for. Maybe thats the reason why I feel inclined to atleast educate myself on the issues and know when to stand up and write senators/protest/flee the country if necessary

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in case you havn't noticed there are a few people out there defaulting on loans they can't pay back. 3 g's can buy a few months on a mortagage

Like brits, who live their entire lives as one gigantic loan? They actually deserved it.

No, but it doesn't mean you can bitch about io who doesn't care because he knows he can't change anything anyway. It's so elitist it's almost hilarious. I might as well call you an idiot because despite comets being a very real threat to end human civilization you know next to nothing about them. Why are you not looking at the sky with fear every night, like we,
elightened people, do?

Even if they themselves can't change anything directly, I'm sure it would be beneficial for them to have a decent understanding of the bigger events happening around the world.

lol I like how serious this sounds
seriously, global warming is a prime example...
if you're aware of it you can do your part to stop it
if you're not you're part of the problem. Plain and simple
..you do know what global warming is...right? :erm:

I'm kind of in the same boat as IO (geographically and economically), but I was certainly thinking about the crisis when I bought gas at $1.58 today. I hear every day about the job losses and massive stock market losses, and I realize when it does hit me, it will hit me hard. Luckily I don't have enough to lose much, but lots of other people aren't that lucky.
There is a little too much self-righteous "I'm on top of things" sentiment in here, but it is still correct for the most part. If you aren't aware of the problem there is not going to be much luck of fixing it, even if you aren't part of the solution (though everyone is going to be part of any "solution" to global warming).
I personally think staying on top of things nationally and internationally is part of being an adult. It doesn't matter if these things make you feel worse, they aren't supposed to be pleasant, but that's just me, can't really say everyone should be like that.
Edit: Wait, does Thief13x believe in global warming? Does he believe its man-made or that we are worsening it? Why do I have the feeling he used to be a skeptic? I'm not going to look it up of course, because that would be a thoroughly depressing endeavor, but I'm sure those of you with encyclopedic memories for past threads and posts will confirm/deny.

To be fair, not all of these are slavering republicon GLOBAL WARMING IS A SCAM statements, but it does show a rather interesting about-face in sentiment going from "I dont care" to "Dont you know what global warming is?". If he just just honestly changed his mind then I'm glad, and he should be complimented for it, but being self-righteous about it pretty much forces me to call you out.
