I am currently doing the hall of illusions puzzle the snake-women want me to do in exchange for their half of the watchamacallit anti-drain artifact. I got past the bit with the illusory levers, and now have come to a room that has a crystal ball at the top of some stairs, and six adjacent rooms with a lever in each. I have tried all sorts of things here but have made no progress. What must I do to get past this bit?

There are six rooms with 6 levers.
Drop a different object in front of each lever (I chose to put potions because it was easy to compare colors).
Now, go and look at the crystal ball. You'll see WHICH LEVER it is showing thanks to the object you put in front of it.
Go and pull that lever. (you can take your object back).
Go and look at the crystal ball again and pull the lever it's showing (and take you object).
Do this 6 times et voila!
Oh I feel like a complete idiot now. (Laughs at self.)
I kept going back and forth from the crystal ball and carefully examined the geometric features of the tile floor. It took me about 20 minutes but I finally match up those tiles and pulled the switches in the right order.
I guess this shows that even the smallest things in Arx can have multiple approaches.

"Geometric features" hehehe
I thought this puzzle was cool cause it had a very practical solution.

We never thought it could be done that way... without going crazy!;)
Have fun with Arx!

Bows to the genious of xman.
It was funny how I did it. I memorized the tile and would see things like a triangle. Walked to EVERY single room and found the room with an order like triangle, rectangle, and Utah shaped. Then I would go back and get the next one and if it was wrong it would reset everything. I then would scream and pull my hair out. (I'm ok now, I'm finally over it.) But nonetheless, I made it through and got my statue.
It seemed like the smart thing to do at the time!
Baron Bifford on 17/11/2002 at 11:49
Okay, I got the statue, then I dumped it in the golden bowl at the end of the gauntlet, but now the signs simply say "told you so", and I have no idea how to proceed.
B745 on 17/11/2002 at 14:47
OK, one of the statues is a fake. The other one will get you the ring. Now I didn't realize this at the time and I just threw a statue in. It happened to be the right one, so I figured that the signs were talking about one of the statues being fake. Does anyone know how to tell them apart beforehand? I'm thinking you should use a reveal on them. For me, it was the first statue I picked up that turned out to be right.
Spoilers:
try both statues, i tried the fake one first.. didnt work so tried teh real one second. to tell before hand, make note of where u put it in your inventory.
Baron bifford: you have to get the real statue too.
Go in the first room with the dozen levers. shoot an arrow into the snakes sword area on the picture.
then it will open up the chest.
(in case you dont know where the chest is: open up all the wall hangings (curtains) on the wall in the previous room. especially the room next to the snake statues. you will find a lever and a secret room. the real golden snake is in there)
