...to JC, towards the end of the game. "Be sure to frag some ATF for me."
ATF?

Bureau of Alchohol Tobacco and Firearms.
I once heard a statistic that they violate more constitutional rights than criminals on any average day.

Thanks, Silkworm.
Puts a chill down my spine, and makes me very glad I don't live in the States, when I read about organisations like this.

The constitution limits government, not other criminals. But yeah, "Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms" should be a convenience store rather than a government agency.

Did you hear that from the same place that told you that you cannot pick up bodies in Deus Ex? ;)

Actually, there's some truth to it - I've personally had a friend who had his door bashed in at 6 in the morning by the ATF only because his neighbor called and said he'd seen a few guns in his house.
Of course, we're in Texas, where that's entirely normal - and the guy is a registered gun dealer, who sells them at shows all over the state.
If they'd just bothered to check even the most basic facts (or verify the single phone call), it could have been avoided. And it's not the only incident I've directly seen like this.
ATF is unnecessary these days; it's responsibilities need to be folded into the FBI and DEA, and then the agency should be dissolved.

It was from a joke in the fake commercials in You Don't Know Jack, I'm not saying its right. But it wouldn't surprise me.
btw, the it perfectly possible for a criminal to violate
constitutional rights, GreatGodPan, your thinking of the
Bill of Rights which is only the 1st ten amendments to the larger constitution. The Bill of Rights limits government, but the constitution has to do with the law as a whole - interactions between private corporations, citizens, government etc.

The only crime specified in the constitution is treason. What right does it violate? Give me an example something other than government violating a constitutional right.
