I've heard his voice acting in Calendra's Cistern & Legacy (I think 7th Crystal and Order of the Vine too?), and to be honest, I agree that he did sound like Garrett... Maybe not perfect, but the voice and acting certainly gave that vibe. :)

They're BOTH Garrett but Stephen Russell originated the role, so he is THE Garrett.

Thanks for the kind words everybody. Thief actually lead me to the internet and working these news Windows computers. This place was the first place I found. It is home. Even if the blue color of the forum has never appealed to me. :o The FM community has kept a great game alive for two decades strong. I've just tried to do my part. It's been a pleasure.

I play 1000% more FMs than original so I associate the FM voices more now with Garrett than the original VA.

Back in ~2001, I was looking to expand my first FM, The Enterprise, into a sizeable campaign. Up to that point, I had simply grabbed lines for Garrett from Thief Gold. But a campaign needed new voicing. The hard-working options for Garrett at the time had two problems in my opinion... First off, they were busy doing other projects, and in every case, they tended toward flawed imitations of Stephen Russel's version -- which was not horribly bad, but I found it distracting.
Switching gears, I decided to focus on acting. I wanted someone who 'got the character' deep down in his bones. Someone who could convey the subtle sensibilities of Garrett's attitude -- not simply imitate his voice. TTLG probably has an ancient thread that documents my search, but in the end, Sly sent some test lines, and I knew I had my 'Garrett' for A Keeper of the Prophecies.
During the entire project, Sly stuck with me through thick and thin -- sending CDs filled with multiple takes. He also voiced secondary characters, including complete schemas for all the possible interactions.
Beyond this, he offered lots of useful suggestions, play-tested the missions numerous times, and delivered the toughest lines I wrote with exactly the right understanding of the moment. Simply put, Sly is a major reason why KotP has seen 20+ years of consistent downloads.
I am very happy to see how KotP launched Sly into the role of Garrett in many FMs since, and apart from discovering him and putting him to work, Sly's talent and professionalism are the reasons for his success.
