Anyone ever tried using these? I think they're supposed to not spread and pack a punch. There's even special SPSA to go with them. GP is fantastic but you can get bored with it fast. It doesn't even have unique version(booo!).

I tried them, yes, they work in a sense that they don't spread (or at least they spread less) :)

These are all modifiers for the gun from which they are fired. The base values would be 1 (aside from name, weight and tracer). Apparantly, darts are better in every useful way than slugs but buckshot is by far the king for close range, provided your target isn't too heavily armoured, since you get ten shots instead of one.

I really like the dart ammo. They are very precise at long range, so they can be very useful in the earlier stages of the game. I often use them to kill the soldiers at the bridge from up above.
Koki on 19/1/2008 at 19:10
Stats are fantastic, but I can't really get it untill you post something for reference(i.e. 5.56).

well, for most standard ammunition, values are usually around 1. The ammo types which stray the most from this are the shotgun shells, followed by the 7.62 rounds for the dragunov and the 9x39 rounds for the groza and AS Val. Most ammo types just have standard and improved/armour piercing. improved rounds are generally just better in every way, while armour piercing have much better penetration and can be a little more accurate but sometimes do slightly less damage. Here are a few more examples:
crappy 9x18mm for the pmm, pb, fort

Thanks. So it indeed seems darts are pretty awesome. But I just noticed that you can't buy them in shops... heh.
GRRRR on 20/1/2008 at 09:46
Theyre pretty good at the start because theyre really the only thing having good accuracy and damage at that stage. Definitely helpful for the bridge. Not sure how they compare in the later game, never tried altho i guess they could be funny used with a Spas or Chaser. But i think i saw them for sale somewhere, not sure tho

Beyond the sawn-off you get near the start, I never really use shotguns much. I've found it's far better to drop things from a distance with a few well placed shots to the head with a rifle than to get close enough for the shotgun to be effective (Even with darts or slugs).
I suppose they might be useful inside, like the labs, but I'd rather have a shotgun as an option as opposed to a main weapon and it's not really practical to carry an AR and a shotgun due to weight constraints. Hmmm, a shotgun attachment for ARs (Like the grenade launcher) would have been a nice option...
If you're after dart rounds, Koki, the trader (Sidirovich?) gives them as a reward for one of his Fed Ex quests. I generally end up with several hundred gathering dust in my stash.
Muzman on 20/1/2008 at 21:24
Most of the trader/employment agencies will give them to you depending on where you are in the sequence of artifact or animal part missions.
For a while now I've been just wandering around collecting everything in sight. I must look like a trapper; strings of dogs tails, pig's feet, bloodsucker jaws, artifacts galore hanging off me. So whenever I swing into town I just take and complete every damn job on offer. Once you get about four or five jobs into the sequence you start getting dart rounds as rewards (I think a bloodsucker jaw for the scientist netted me about 60 of the things). Usually I just sell them straight back though, as I gave up on shotguns quite some time ago. I really wish they'd give me sniper rounds instead.
