Perhaps I should also point out that the combination of sleep deprivation, alcohol, and freaking out about how fucked up your body becomes from the two can cause you to post whiny rants and/or PM people that you later wish you really hadn't. I've managed to alienate people I used to call friends this way (Bill, Isa, Eve) from a combination of sheer stupidity and insomnia/alcohol freakouts. Some of these people won't even talk to me now. I can't say I blame them; I wouldn't have wanted to know me then either.
So, you may want to restrict your alcohol usage. Some can be good, some more can be disaster.

Taking phenothiazines, zopiclone, and drinking heavily. Well done. Be sure to enjoy your liver disease and/or respiratory failure.

can you begin to imagine dreams that get so big they crush you
ask me about it sometimes, it is the most insane shit ever
Are these dreams where you fele like you're suffocating in a way that is like being pulled down underwater, and it does feel like your being literally crushed or even weirder being sucked down through your bed? I was and still sometimes get these kind of dreams. Besides being due to hormonal activities no doubt about that, I read something about physical dreams. It's a state called hypnagogia. Right after you fall asleep, the body jerks about due to muscles trying to relax and the mind is still going full on. So you get lucid dreaming and a physical sense of being pulled about.
My grandfather has sleep apnea. He'd go sprawl on a chair after a meal and nod off while your holding your own breath waiting to see when or if he'll breathe again. You can't call it snoring but it was even more annoying to have to listen to it.

Seems they require a blood test for diagnosis. That idea's out. [/needphobic]
I could lend you a gun and a bucket if you like that better. :D

Thanks, but I already have plenty of guns, and buckets aren't hard to come by. ;)

Then load one of them guns with ammo, and find a good spot on your arm.
You might feel slight pain by the way. :p

pppth! needlephobes...a wee prick isn't going to hurt much. I should know I'm back to jabbing myself three times a day.

Even with my c-pap machine there will be nights when I can't shut my brain off and I notice I'm holding my breath and not breathing.
I've done a technique called conscious relaxation which seems to work.
You start with your toes and clench them and relax.Move to your feet, legs upper body etc.all the while your consciously taking deep breathes. It seems to work.

There may be help on the way; I read recently that they've had some success inducing sleep by blocking the peptide that causes narcolepsy. They're tweaking it now to get the dosage right:
