Playing through my Impossible PSI/OSA run, I learned for the first time that you can skip a PSI level! May be old hat to some of you, but I never knew that you could.
I skipped PSI 3 completely. By doing so I was able to get invisibility (PSI 4) about halfway through Hydroponics. In retrospect, I didn't really need it that early, but I wanted to be sure I had it by Deck 4 before doing the Section A area.
Skipping PSI 3 is a 53 cyber module savings, before the investment in any of the individual spells.
Now I'm a bit into the Rickenbacker and have all my endgame PSI spells (particularly these PSI 5 ones: Some Transference, Aura and whatever the "charm" one is called (can't check from here)); and can spend the rest of my cyber modules on general upgrades.
Anyways, I think I'll finish this playthrough without any PSI 3 spells. I can live without all of them (though the Pyro is nice to have).
Never knew you could skip a level before.

It's not as if the game tries to make you believe otherwise.

This makes me laugh, you thought the game would hypnotize you to upgrade PSI 1 - 5 or something? Skipping a tier is easy, all you have to do is not click on it when you have enough cyber modules.

Yeah, I can't think of anything offhand the game does that implies it requires a consecutive linear progression. For some reason I just assumed it.
I guess maybe in most games you have to "do 2 before 3" so I never thought to try differently with the PSI skills.
But on Impossible I was being as "tight" as possible on cyber module "expenditure"; and thought to give it a shot. Was a pleasant surprise for me that it worked. :thumb:

I'm not a big fan of PSI 3 myself, most of the time I skip it.

Gotta admit, I've tried playing through as an OSA character several times now and keep finding I skip literally every skill except kinetic redirection (force pull) cryokenisis (ie, my starter skills) the two level two psi skills that improve your melee (Adrenaline overproduction and that one that surrounds you with flames; and even then I don't always get those two) until I hit tier 5-the others just don't seem useful enough to be needed.

how do you not get invisibility? It's the one PSI skill I always get.

It makes the BotM a cakewalk.

That, and Soma both do.
Having now finished my Impossible PSI runthrough, I can say it was my favorite playthrough of all. PSI is definitely a cool way to play.

By running out of cybermods, doi. It's a rather expensive skill.
