After the cure for vampirism you are immune to a future infection. Aundae are the mages and yes if you want to be Aundae you need to be infected by one. You also get a skill bonus to your clans speciality besides the generic vampire bonus.

I might just load up my finished game (i.e. the one I completed the main quest in), get a weakness to disease spell, and check out the vampires... this stuff sounds really cool. :)

Skronk: I'm on my third Vampire quest now, and enjoying it. The big thing I don't like is you have to walk/fly everywhere(very few people will deal with you, and none of the "travel" people.)... and they send you long distances for quests. The bonus stuff you get is pretty fun though.... being able to jump up on top of biuldings and what not.
Just casting a spell of "weakness to common" wasn't enough for me, it takes a while to get turned. I enchanted a bunch of excuisite stuff with a constant effect for it, I think the total was like a 78% weakness, and it still took about 10 min of one of them beating on me to get Vamped.
It's worth it though, just for the change.
