Now it's likely the gamma has been pumped up a bit for the demonstrations, but even with this considered, all the previews I've seen show a complete absence of the rich and enveloping darkness of the originals. With only a few exceptions, standing in an unlit room in Thief 4 shows everything is about as visible as if the lights were turned on. Now I hate to be "that guy" complaining about the dumbing down of games and blah blah, but it seems like obvious concessions were made to keep new players comfortable. A comment during one of the videos "Garrett sees more in the dark than a normal guard would" seems to confirm this direction. Hoping the gamma slider doesn't suck, hate when it just crushes the blacks and not much else..
So anyways with this, the extraordinarily unremarkable voice acting, and the replacement of Eric Brosius's work with completely forgettable background filler (does nobody else appreciate how much our beloved series was elevated just by HIM alone?), I fear the worst when it comes to retaining the vibe that made Thief so special. I just cannot imagine how much more.. generic.. a modern day Thief could be made. Probably gonna snore my way through this one.
already February.. brace yourselves

Shadow system is something which bothers me the least - I have high hopes in that matter.
The other things, well... You can't say if music from new title will be worse, we could had heard only small portions of it.
What bothers me most is tight, compacted level design. Thief is about the joy of the exploration and missions' complexivity. Without it even a great story, voice acting or music won't make this game any better.

i'll cut off my own arm if they went beyond checking off boxes and actually poured any amount of soul into the ambient design. i think they're too distracted with seeing how SWEET they can make the game

I'm afraid it may turn out to be too generic, too. Atmosphere and good story driving are very important things here.
