Fun Fact (Fuct): I walked the actual streets of Silent Hill; much of the exterior shots were filmed in the ruination of Brantford
Looks like a great place to live, if you're into shit holes.

i'll give it a 3/10
don't spend your time + money unless you enjoy watching bad acting, a poor plot, and a really really cheap use of CGI technology.
I honestly have no clue why the theatre was so packed other than thte fact that this was already a game:sweat:
edit: never played the game...never want to after this
I don't think I can disagree more, the acting was fine (not stellar or anything, but it worked just fine.) The only part that really made me cringe was when the little girl was yelling SILENT HILL in the very beginning. The other character I didn't care for was
Ann, but I got the feeling she was supposed to be awkward, as the people of the town didn't interact with outsiders much.
The plot most certainly was not *poor*, some of it was vague and intentionally left to interpretation which is *exactly* the way the games do it, though I do think the full reveal near the end was kind of cheesy and unnecessary, it was not the director's original intent to have such a scene, it was insisted upon by the studio.
And I really have no idea what you think 'cheap use of CGI technology' is, though I think there are surely plenty of examples of bad and obvious CGI in movies. I thought the effects that were used were very unobtrusive... but maybe that comes down to allowing yourself suspension of disbelief. Regardless, I can't think of anything that just completely pulled me out of the movie experience and go "OMG COMPUTARS!"
AR Master, that is pretty cool, and creepy. In fact, I believe someone on TTLG posted about visiting while they were shooting and even had some pictures, might have been you, or maybe I'm thinking of another board.

I haven't personally seen it (haha I have a kid now, no more cinema for me :() but going by the reviews, it sounds
exactly like every other video game adaptation. No attempt to elaborate or add depth to the plot, a bunch of freaky horror set pieces with random monsters that only make an iota of sense if you've played the games, and then they tossed in a few others elements (like Pyramid Head) with an insanely high gore content just to geek the fans out and stir up a froth of internet frenzy.
People in Hollywood need to learn that what makes games popular is the personal immersion and the dimension of interaction with a plot as it unfolds, in most cases games have plots that are ludicrously simple or simply ludicrous (like Half Life and Grim Fandango, to use two good examples). They don't translate because there's nothing deeper going on in these adaptations than what happened in the games and unless you're the kind of geek that finds the sum of game references to equal a successful movie, this trend will continue forever.

So about 40 minutes in I sez "Oh my god this movie is fucking shit" to hearty laughter from my peers and strangers in the theater. Oh, but I wanted to like it, I really did. And for 40 minutes I tried my hardest to forgive the shitty pacing and the ATROCIOUS dialogue for what I was swearing up and down was decent cinematography and great set design.
About 1 and a half hours later the movie ended, leaving a husk of a man that had succumbed to the horrors of Silent Hill and been BORED TO FUCKING DEATH.
I can't stress how goddamn fucking boring Silent Hill is. Even Pyramid Head just kind of lumbers onscreen, they fuck up so many chances for fear that it's just dull. CREEPING DREAD more like WHEN THE FUCK WILL THIS FUCKING END.
Hate hate hate suck suck suck fuck fuck fuck

The guardian film review was the harshest mistress of all: "unbelievably boring horror-thriller at such testicle-shrinking length".
Not to mention fucking up on atmosphere, I heard that the script plunged into the ludicrous too. Apparently after entering a burnt out, blackened shell of a room, the protagonist says:
Looks like there was a fire here.

Well, the acting was decent, not wonderful; it was some crappy lines thrown in that make it suck. The atmosphere was well done I thought, but the storyline was pretty sick. It felt as if they couldn't make a short movie though, so a little bit was thrown to sort of explain things - I hated that :/
And I wanted the ending to have closeure, but that would be expecting a little much from Silent Hill.

yeah big time, I HATE when movie's either A) assume the audience is too dumb to get it or B) don't develop it well enough, and has to spend time explaining it line for line. The ending was kind agravating too, I still didn't really get it, too much unanwsered even with all the time they spent leading you by the hand.

I went to see it last night, and being somewhat of a silent hill fan, i thought it was a great adaption. They absolutely captured the atmosphere and the feel of the silent hill games. The visuals were fantastic, and the sounds were great. Only complaint i had was the overall cohensy of the whole plot, they shouldnt have just made shit up to fill in the gaps in the story when it really isnt necessary. The ending wasnt that great either. I really enjoyed the movie though, and its probably the best video game movie adaptation ive ever seen.
Also the movie needed more pyramid head. :(
