In the original film storyline the crashed spaceship was a alien temple, in the original art for the film by geiger, there was a whole bunch of alien temples and their worshipers were a bunch of elephant like aliens. This got ditched for some reason, too expensive to do probably cos it would have had to be big sets and props. The book of the film is based on the finished film not the original script. The temples looked like the alien eggs, and the temples looked like they had been grown, not built.

I remember Ridley Scott talking about wanting to do a prequel many years ago, and how he wanted to deal with the space jockey; he theorized (probably idly at the time) that the aliens were created as a biological weapon by the race which the space jockey belongs to.
I'm willing to be quietly excited by this - Ridley Scott knows what he's doing.

O rly?
How do you figure that one out? I don't think anyone forgets, I think its just that it's not as important as what is going on in their face. However, I would like to see this explored more by the films in some ways, although I quite enjoy the "mysteries of the universe" that it brings.
Bring on the Rama film ffs and forget these sequels and rehashes.

As long as Joss "I like ensemble casts because then I don't have to create more than 2 interesting characters" Whedon doesn't write it I'm sold.

It's going to be a blockbuster. The true essence of the Alien series is the woman Ripley.
The derelict ship aliens should be brought in to tie up that loose end and maybe just bring it full circle. They were larger than the Aliens themselves apart from the Queen and if they were the ones that engineered (for lack of a better word) the aliens maybe, since so much time has passsed, possibly they have created something much worse.

Those are pretty conflicting statements. You say Ripley
is Alien(s), yet if it's a prequel, she won't be in it (thus greatly impacting the chances that it will be a "blockbuster"). Kind of like a terminator movie without Arnold, or The Matrix without Neo.

Poppycock.......The true essence of the alien series...is the Aliens
As soon as Ellen Ripley died giving birth to Brian in the prison film I NEVER ever even thought of her as having anything to do with being ripley in the other resurection film...after all it wasnt HER,...Ripley was dead by then, this was a clone type thing.(hope that makes sense)
I would love to see a prequel....It could be done with just the two alien species....the space jocky one and the black one......BUT NO DIALOGUE WHATSOEVER...heehee it would work well...us just observing how they got to that point...before the next race gets involved....
It would be great without dialogue at all...just alien communication, whatever that is,or turn out to be in the film, whether its noise or movement..with that dark atmosphere to the film, and the coldness it portrays....and ,hey no need for subtitles in ANY language,I would be scared witless...
oh well just my thoughts.....:D

People often forget that the ship that crashed had to come from somewhere, whether that be a singular indigenous planet of theirs (if they were not artificially created), or possibly even an entire solar system.
Solar system means in the system of the star 'Sol'. For some reason this mistake always pisses me off
