Nice, glad they are branching away from the current direction and starting a new one.
I love all the Aliens flicks (I remember vividly seeing Aliens in the theater as a kid and being scared as hell), and I even like the AvPs. But the series has taken a serious beating and many wrong turns... here's a chance to set things right in the end.

Prequel?
I guess the idea that Ridley Scott is onboard is to make us think it could possibly not suck, which in a way is kind of possible, but come on...

Remember in Space Balls where they had the video of the movie out before the movie was even finished. Well, if they can do it perhaps...
You wouldn't happen to have a newer photo of lets say...
Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus vs Alien vs Predator vs Terminator vs Robocop vs Velocripators vs Neo vs Rambo
Hmmm... :erm:

I'm all for more Alien(s), of course, but, a prequel? It will be interesting to see what they do, but it seems like a reach. I guess after Resurrection, there's not much room to go forward. But it was mentioned in Aliens that there is absolutely no record of the Alien species before the Nostromo encounters the crashed ship with the eggs, so it almost doesn't seem possible that a prequel would involve any humans from Earth.
Of course, the company has lied before, so maybe that's part of it. It's been a while since I've seen Alien, but I always thought Ash's mission was triggered after they got the transmission from the crashed ship, but maybe the entire voyage of the Nostromo was staged as an excuse to get to the ship from the start.
I always though it was funny too how, in Aliens, everyone is interested in the Aliens, but not the crashed spaceship with yet another species of extraterrestrial life (albeit a dead one) aboard. Who knows, maybe the prequel will deal with that too.

Well it depends on your view of what the colonists sent to investigate the ship, were there to do. The assumption is that they were sent in by Burke to get infected, or it could have been to procure alien artifacts or possibly to just survey the site. Hard to tell really. Plus they were too busy with getting wiped out by aliens after that :p.
People often forget that the ship that crashed had to come from somewhere, whether that be a singular indigenous planet of theirs (if they were not artificially created), or possibly even an entire solar system. Them being artificially created makes more sense logically as I cant see how they would be able to exist on their own, or to have even began.
In either case the possibility of a home planet or multiple infected planets is there. If you go by the story in the comics + books then there is a queen of queens on the aliens home planet.

I'm intrigued, but the one common thread that drew me to see all the Aliens movies - including Resurrection - was Sigourney Weaver's Ripley.
Planning another entry in the series with Scott at the helm is great, but a prequel pretty much excludes any possibility of Weaver being in it, so I have very mixed feelings about this.

Confused - what do you mean by "artificially created?" Like, they're synthetics or robots like Ash/Bishop? And who are you referring to, the Aliens or the crew on the ship? Either way, it doesn't seem to make much sense.
