Well the main problem with the alien v's predator crap is that if the predators like to hunt things and collect their skulls as trophies there's no way they would stick to hunting one species like the alien species, they would hunt loads of different species, so the whole crap about them seeding planets with life with the alien species, comes down to being a whole load of shit. It just means some one lacking in imagination came up with some crap and everyone who had no imagination then jumped in the bandwagon with them.

If you go into someone's hunting lodge, do they have just one species of deer heads all over the wall, or do they have a whole load of other species over their walls.

Hmmm. Yeah, but I got the impression that the Aliens were an "ultimate" prize. Like they are considered to be uber tough. Humans are obviously much easier to hunt.

Part of the enjoyment of the Alien franchise is while every film ostensibly takes place within the same universe, each was directed by a different guy who brought something new to the table (of course I'm not counting the AVP films here; those are just unmitigated garbage).

Originally Ridley and Tony Scott were just producing and they had lined up some unknown protege of theirs who had shot commercials and the like for Scottfree. Fox kept pushing for Ridley to direct and the project almost fell apart. It looks like Fox won in the end.

I say they should give the Rinsch guy a chance. I really doubt Scott just tapped him out of nepotism.

Well, to tell you the truth I haven't bothered watching AVP:R yet (mostly because reviews and word of mouth have been almost universally horrible), but AVP was just an extremely boring, run of the mill, b-action/horror film. The characters were lame, one-dimensional retreads of past characters from the franchise (main chick was obviously supposed to be like Ripley, etc), the action scenes were boring and poorly shot, the plot was dumb, etc, etc.

While Alien Resurrection was also definitely a bad film, at least it was trying to do something interesting with the whole black comedy angle.

I'm also able to forgive it a bit more as it's so obviously separate from the other three films. It looks completely different (as explained by it being hundreds of years later) and the only real character connection, Ripley, isn't even "real" anyway.

In that way it's kind of like a retarded half-brother who sits at his own special table at dinner. Yeah, he's still a retard making a mess, but at least he isn't fucking up the rest of the family's dinner in the process.

Besides, it has its memorable moments, which is definitely more than can be said for AVP.

I dunno, I can watch AvP with less tears than A:R. Alien Resurrection may have tried something new, but it did it with absolutely no respect for the rest of the series.
With AvP, you could at least tell that Paul Anderson cared about what he was doing and was trying not to fuck it up. In all honesty, the concept of Aliens versus Predator could have been royally fucked up a lot worse than AvP (See AvP Requiem).

As for Predators only hunting aliens, what the hell gives anyone that idea? Predators often hunt humans (see the actual Predator films), they also hunt many different species (see the trophy cabinet in P2), and the events of AvP were a rite of passage for three young Predators, so like an ultimate hunting test. For all we know this could have been the final exam after ten other monster-hunts on ten other worlds. There's no evidence anywhere to say that Predators as a species hunt only aliens.

AvP: Requiem is a hell of alot better than the first one. Except that the predator kills an unarmed guy at one point in it, which goes against the whole predator code of ethics. Besides that its quite good. I really enjoyed it.

The whole "predators seeding aliens on planets for hunting purposes" goes very very far back. Its in the books, comics and the videogames as well. It certainly wasn`t something invented for the AvP movies.

Also Dethtolls 100% correct on Alien Resurrection. Total abomination that should never have been made. Theres something about the name "Resurrection". You put it on a movie name and it immediately curses it. Just have a watch of Halloween Resurrection (abomination of a movie that should never have been made and just stopped at H20) and you`ll see what I mean.
