I want to download SHTUP, but wondered if it's easy to install? Also will it work under multiplayer coop mode?

That depends, have you ever unpacked an archive?
Take a look at (

Yes it will, it's (mostly) just textures. You can even run an MP game where one player has SHTUP and the other hasn't. Of course then only the person with SHTUP installed will be able to enjoy the goodness.

How/where do I unzip these files to please to get this to work?
Any other mods worth having?

You unzip them by, well, unzipping them. Just point the extraction location to the root SS2 folder, which by default is C:\Games\Sshock2, and make sure you have Use Folder Names flagged, if you are using WinZip to get the job done.

Sometimes I wonder why I ever bother writing documentation.

[This is a bit technical - please ignore unless you want to be confused]
It is, in fact, possible to have SS2 load the SHTUP data straight from the zip file without unzipping it at all. Unfortunately, SS2 doesn't like the format of the current SHTUP archive - I had to extract it and re-zip it (using WinRAR) or else I would get 'invalid directory structure in zipfile' errors from SS2 when I tried to add it to the path.
Since it doesn't work with the current archive, it's probably fairly pointless to describe the method in detail.
Basically, you put the zipfile into the SS2 folder, open install.cfg in your favourite text editor, and add .\shtup_beta5+ to the beginning of the resname_base line, so it should read something like resname_base .\shtup_beta5+.\Res
You can almost load fan missions using this method, but unfortunately SS2 refuses to read the .mis files from inside a .zip, so it will never be a viable option.

i heard about shtup today for the first time on this forum, which is neat because i just started a SS2 replay a couple days ago
installing it is as simple as downloading a file, extracting some files from a zip, and changing some text in a file that looks just like a generic txt file - if you have the computer literacy enough make your way to a forum on the internet, you can easily install shtup
just download the file and follow the readme instructions, they're clear and basic and it takes 2 minutes

apologies, it's the easiest install I have ever done. Although I have not not I not notist much difference yet I've only started the training.
can the game go higher than 1024x768 and 16million colours?

It can have a higher resolution, but no more than 16 bit. All you have to do is edit your cam.cfg file, and change the game_screen_size line to the resolution you wish to use, e.g.: game_screen_size 1280 1024.

Thanks, should I see a noticeable different using SHTUP? As I don't.
