* Three out of four stim unit faces upgraded (still can't figure out who that second guy is).
Didn't y'all go for the Machiavelli idea? That looked pretty good, to me at any rate.

Fantastic! I haven't played Polaris yet (yes I know, shame ), but when I do I'll have SHTUP Beta 6 installed to up the prettiness even more.
When using SHTUP with fan campaigns, be sure to install SHTUP first, then the campaign on top of it. They tend to override the default SS2 graphics with a lot of their own stuff.
I'm hoping nobody has had any performance problems with Beta 6. It uses a ton of Targa textures, which might slow loading and rendering down a bit.

I don't know it it had to do with the level design of Polaris or not, but I did notice that when I first entered a new level: the game froze for a moment. But after a couple of seconds, all was well again. I'm guessing it was caused by textures that were still being copied into the video card's RAM.
I'll have to try SHTUP in the regular game and see if the same thing happens.
EDIT: It's just in Polaris.

FWIW, I haven't noticed any difference except the Von Braun looks a hell of a lot sharper with SHTUP. Load times and framerates seem to be the same regardless of whether SHTUP is installed or not. This is on a 2.8 GHz P4 with an nVidia 6800GT card.
This is the first time I've played with SHTUP and I've gotta say this mod kicks butt. I've never really been able to play above 1024x768 before because most of the textures looked too blurry and/or too pixelated. Now I'm playing at 1600x1200 and the ship is looking sweet. Thanks guys!

Feetals gizzards! This made my day, just finished playing Bioshock and that game made me miss System Shock 2, thanks to this I can enjoy some new high-rez goodies. Keep up the good work everyone.

Excellent job, I'd just started a new game so really enjoying it. Much thanks to everyone involved.

Was wondering if anything was done with Shodan's face as in the ShodanHead mod (or Zylon's version)?
Also, is there an easy way to switch back to the original Xerxes texture? Don't want to sound ungrateful but if I were going to change it at all I'd want it less distinct.
btw, tried it using a GeForce2 400 (64mb) on a Pentium II machine, so most people should be fine.

Sure, just delete XERXES_.PCX and XERXES_1.PCX from OBJ\TXT16\.
Though lord knows why you'd want a texture that's
more blurry than the already blurry original. :erg:

When I played SS2 yesterday I was in the central hub on MedSci and suddenly I got that paranoia, you know, when you think someone's looking at you behind your back? So I turned around and saw Xerxes staring down at me, sharp and creepy. Excellent work there, Eldron.

Heh, excellent work indeed.
Something I forgot to mention about IceNine's updated pipe models is that they really improve the lighting. The original pipe models built each side out of a single polygon, no matter how long the pipe. Since SS2 uses vertex-based instead of per-pixel lighting, this means that nearby light sources can cause the entire pipe length to light up, when realistically only part of it would. This made for some really disjointed-looking pipe assemblies.
But IceNine's pipe models are subdivided along their entire lengths. So if there's a light right next to a pipe, only part of the pipe will be lit up. It looks much more realistic. The Xerxes column area on Engineering is a great place to check out this difference.
