The shroud effect is not in the latest trailer... But has been in trailers before this from what I can see... Maybe they finally listened and removed it??
Thoughts??

This was mentioned in the thread on the trailer, but anyway another possibility is that it was just taken out because it made for a better trailer. But considering they didn't take other UI out that's not a good theory. (And I doubt they used pre-shroud gameplay.) So you may be right that it was either taken out or at least made turn-off-able and turned off, either way a good thing for me. I want to turn off most of the UI to play it.

Hmm, indeed, it could have been taken out for the trailer... However, after looking back at a few older trailers, the 'Shroud' was there in all it's 'glory'. I really hope they took on board criticisms and removed it/made it an option!
Is there likely to be further previews which take place with the final gold version?

I've hated the shroud since I first saw it and even I was surprised just how much better the game looks without it. They have been pretty adamant in their support of it however so I don't expect it to be gone, though I'd gladly be proven wrong.

That would be pretty funny.
"This feature that we have gone out of our way to make impossible to disable by players, makes the game look bad in the trailer, som we removed it." A feature that sacrifices gameplay for aesthetics, removed from a trailer because it ruins the aesthetics. At that point it would be an insult if players couldn't disable it, because by EM's own admission, having it on would literally only have negative effects on the game, and no redeeming factors.

Good point.

Unfortunately, Platinum's statement is true...as despite its crude facility, EM would never allow NuThief's only dedicated visibility indicator to be toggled off.

Shroud is still there, confirmed by Freyja over at Eidos forums...

Real answer: there's no shroud in cinematics, so for everything to be nice and consistent throughout the trailer we did some voodoo with the marketing build for the gameplay shots.

She seems to be adamant that its significantly reduced though...

I know I've talked about how subtle the shroud is again and again and you're not sold on it, which is fine and understandable and great...
Just know that we spent a good part of the afternoon comparing footage from the real consumer build to the 101 Trailer and debating whether or not the shroud had been turned on or off for different shots. No undisputed winner in that argument, except maybe you hardcore immersion fans.
So... the shroud is going nowhere!

We'll see about that. I'm sure someone in the community will find a way to hack it out.
