People in the middle ages used to drink from the very same water source they pooped in.
There were rather a lot of very nasty illnesses going around from exactly that practice.

But half their children still grew up to the age of adulthood.

Do none of you live in large cities? The majority of city dwellers are living on partialy recycled water.
According to research done by the London Metropolitain water board during the 1960's it takes about 11 times through people and the recycling process before ions in the water induce nausia in sensetive people.

Yep but my (and other people's) concern is about the hormones and hormone-like substances in the water (from the contraceptive pill which was made in the early 1960s anyway).
I was a disgusted that (
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,19987396-3102,00.html) a meatworks which uses up to 55 million litres of water a year was given permission to build in Toowoomba after the no to recycled water vote. This is for a city which has water restrictions already. I believe that this is the undemocratic council forcing residents to accept recycled water (the council was pro-water recycling but was resoundingly defeated in the democractic vote). I am disgusted by this council action.

Well, that's what you get for eating meat. It's got to get processed somewhere.

Listen to AGWPT, people. Just say no to meat, if you don't want to drink recycled water.

Sounds like normal behaviour for councils. If the population of the town is more than twenty thousand or so, they can generally get away with ignoring the people, yet no one takes it seriously because it's only local government.

Well first thing is to get the cows off the pill then ;)
Realistically, are there any towns upstream of where you live, you are in effect drinking water with those problems anyway. (You will get the same effects from water in plastic bottles, if your thinking of avoiding it thqat way)

Not all of Australia is desperately short of water. It's more the northern states and even here in Queensland there are some areas with more water due to luck of the draw I guess.
