I recently bought a scanner. A pretty good one, too. I was wondering if anyone thinks it a good idea to make a digital copy of the manuals that came with the game. There are already ones done for the Underworlds and Shock games, but TN is just as cool a game and I think, if I can figure out how, I'd like to make an effort to add Terra Nova's docs to this group of LGS greats in digital format.
If anyone knows of this already being done or can assist me in converting it, please let me know. Thanks.

I still have a 'don't you dare rip off a Looking Glass game' instinctive reaction that wants me to rail against anyone putting the manual online; but they're gone and it was a self-published game, so I guess there really isn't any reason not to. It might encourage more people to find a copy and play it, which would be good.

I agree. That's why I'm asking this way. Besides, I have no idea how to make a .pdf file of them. The Acrobat Reader 4.0 program that came with the scanner probably doesn't create them.
It may already be on a CD classics version of the game so it might not matter if I make it.

Is anyone aware of Terra Nova appearing on any 'classic' compilations?!
Acrobat Reader certainly can't create PDF files. I don't have any experience in this sort of thing, so I can't think of a way to help offhand.
Perhaps it's worth asking on the Community board about how to go about it?

Actually, I don't think it's a 'classic' version, since you pointed out that LGS published it (news to me, btw). Meaning no EA to put it out.
When I bought it, the woman running the shop offered either the jewel case version or the full retail one. The jewel case probably had the manual in .pdf, but I don't know, since I got the full version w/ box.
Thanks for the input, though.

To make .ps and .pdf files you can use the free (
http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/) Ghostscript, for the Adobe products you'll have to pay, of course.
Or just forget about .pdf and save as a series of plain non-lossy images. Someone will take pity on it and brush with an OCR over it.
If I had a scanner, I'd also scan my German TN and Shock1 manuals to conserve them for posteriority (read: publish them online).

Thanks. That settles the Adobe option. I don't want to spend more money for a hobby project.
I do have an OCR that came with the scanner. It's called Readiris 4.17, but I haven't used it much. It works, though.
If enough people say to, I might try making it this way.

As far as I'm concerned, you're welcome to do it, though I doubt that my opinion carries a lot of legal weight :)
I'm pleasantly surprised to find that people are still playing this.
