You mean that great huge cock that's been surgically attached to the top of your head has been twitching? No, I've been a lurker here for a long time, I only just recently signed up for an account.

back on topic anyone?
seeing as you can buy DX1 for under $10 these days, i'd say get off your ass and buy it first

Like many others said, play DX1 first and don't bother with Invisible War unless you have some time to kill. DX2 takes almost everything good about DX1 and dumbs it down or removes it entirely. And the end level is a huge cop-out. I think most of the reason people dislike DX2 is because they played DX1 and expected more than what they got. For any other FPS, DX2 would be okay--as a sequel to DX1, it's subpar.

Why not play DX2 first. If you didn't have DX1 to compare it to, you'd probably think it was OK. Then you play DX1 and it is even better. It is not like the story will suffer much from what you learn in DX2. Backward you have contrast effects working for you. Forward they work against you. Call that the "star wars" effect.

Oh, for fuck's sake. Did you even read the post you replied to? Did you suffer from some head injuries recently? Lately your crabbiness has fairly often devolved into all-out trolling. Can't you do better?

Oh look, it's Thirith yip-yip-yipping at my ankles again. Here, have a biscuit. That's a good boy.
Of course I read his post. His reasons for playing DX2 first are, to be blunt, stupid. By his logic, you should play all the bad games in the world before playing any of the good games, for no better reason than to make the bad games tolerable. Well, that's a goal utterly without merit. There are far too many games in the world for anyone to play them all, so why waste time playing anything less than the cream of the crop?

Actually, I am pointing out that one's appraisal of something is relative to what came before it, especially if the features of the object are comparable. Contrast effects are fundamental, and supported by tons of psychological research. For instance, a person who wins $800 is happy, unless they were expecting $1500, in which case they are pissed. There is even evidence for this in lower order mammals.
I assume, ZB, you get the analogy here. In any case, you didn't understand the logic I presented. I did not say "play ALL somewhat enjoyable games before any really enjoyable games". This provides no contrast effect except at the last game. It also wastes time, and ignores the fact that people make comparisons when things have similar features.
Play DX2 first, you'll enjoy it. Then play DX1, and you'll REALLY enjoy it. This adds to more enjoyment than playing DX1 first, really enjoying it, and then DX2, which when contrasted with the first will make you weep tears of anger.
