i'm sorry, this is just extremely retarded. i am getting stuck at the top of every ladder. and don't even fucking mention going down ladders. i have to quicksave every time before i go up or down because i end up falling to my death most of the times. and the AI? is so super shit... you can just pick off all the little men in the little warehouse but the ones on the other levels really don't give a shit about the gunshot sounds or their buddies getting capped.
what the fuck is this, 1992? this is supposed to be the best video game of all time?
i'm severely disappointed. and the "plot" really isn't very interesting so far.
edit: i just finished the warehouse level and am now back to unatco headquarters... and north is a different direction than it was when i was here before? i have already noticed 3 directional inconsistencies
i'm serious, these map designers were so fucking retarded. this game is so unpolished/unfinished, i am having SERIOUS trouble understanding why anyone would praise it
ok to fix the (cough cough noob) stair problem, when you get stuck on the ladders, you need to crouch at the top of the ladder and look forward and press forward, dont stress about one or more of the problems in Deus Ex. They are easily fixed as of what Dr. Dumb_lunatic said previously, and By the way...why do you even bother looking for all the errors? OK OK yes you have a geometric thingy problem, but wipe that aside, what were you thinking when you first clicked, Newgame>easy difficutly> Play? I mean did you pick up this game to play it right? or did your buddys drop by your house and say, "This game is worth a try! its awesome!" I mean your at the warehouse so that shows you want to progess in the game since you made it that far :erg: . i mean instead of bickering on all the errors (as if the Unreal engine wasnt complicated enough for bug fixes and what not), just stop playing if this game does not interest you. Simple as that.

That someone can be so analy critical of deus ex and yet say how good it's sequel is, completely ignoring the much more pronounced problems amazes me :S

Subjective Effect: I don't know what you do with that prod, but normally there should be more than enough ammo to handle everyone who needs to be handled with the prod. Myself I mostly use the baton - the trick to learn here is that you have to aim for the back, not for the head at logic would suggest; beats me why, but that's how it is. Especially when JC is crouching, which should be pretty much all the time while in combat. Of course boosting one's Low-tech Weapons skills helps a lot, to the point that certain enemies later on in the game cannot be taken out this way if you're not a Master.
Oh, and if you manage to land a stealthy head shot while Advanced or more in Pistols, there is a large possibility the enemy will go down immediately. The laser helps here because it increases accuracy.
io: First of all, if you haven't heard about this yet, get an improved DX OpenGL renderer here and use it to play the game in OpenGL mode. It helps a lot with the visuals. Second, DX is mostly about the story, so if you're not much into this in games, I'm afraid you'll lose quite a lot of fun; still, there are other elements which make DX:IW feel to me somewhat dumbed-down comparing to the first part, so perhaps you will get into it after all. As for the compass thing... if you're really so directionally-acute, perhaps you should ignore the compass altogether and just use your sense of direction together with the maps? That's what I do while playing DX and I don't think I have ever got lost there, quite the opposite - I don't think there are many, if any at all, places in the game which I haven't found yet.

So what actually governs whether the baton knocks them out or not? Is it just low-tech weapons skill or does stength help it? If I can boost it so it is more effective and not so hit and miss (olol) then I'll use it.

I've run around Liberty Island blackjacking NSF with just the baton and Trained level in low-tech weapons. It is fiddly finding the right spot to hit them though.
The Combat Strength aug does make you hit harder.

Didn't you all hear the man? The direction on the compass changes when you switch level!
HOW DID WE EVER TAKE THIS GAME SERIOUSLY? :(

Hmm yes I was playing like this - then unfortunately I got to mj12 and mib people and it kind of started not to work :-/ Sometimes, very rarely I remember getting the mib sitting at the desk in the unatco hq research labs bit. You can do it but it seems to be very random - maybe I didn't upgrade my hand to hand weapons skill and that is why :S I can't remember.

Can someone tell me exactly where the sweet-spot for baton blackjacking is then? And you say it stops working later on? Hmmm. So it's electrics or nothing? And it takes 2 tazers to take someone out doesn't it? Can you do 1 tazer + 1 baton? And can you do this on the MiBs and other enemies later on?
