The game is linear, indeed. But you can explore a few places and find some insteresting things. And stealth will come in handy quite a few times to be able to reach such places. ;)
I don't think you can get stuck in this game as someone here said. You can choose if you play with the factions or if you simply kill them all. So that isn't going to stand in between you and your plot. I think...
I remember killing all the goblins after I was in their kingdom. But that was due to having been caught stealing :D.
And the dog and the pigs were so funny
