Funny, I did the same thing after getting swept up in all the hype and hated the game. I still do. Too much of a kiddie's game.

I felt a bit like that at first but I think it was only really the setting and initial levels which were basically training levels. I don't think a kid would have got the same kind of kick the Guard/Milkmans level as I did.
