Morrowind isn't like most RPGs and nothing like anything (that I know of anyway) that Square has ever put out.
Having said that I highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't need a linear story to drag them through the game (note that I've got FF7 for my PC and think it's a great game).
Morrowind had the advantage of allowing you to just get lost and no nothing but explore, or you can get right into the main story and follow it through to the end... there are all sorts of faction quests you can do (and you can do almost all of them with just about any character if you play your cards right). And then there are your general side quests that have nothing to do with much of anything.
Be aware that if you're used to a party, you may feel very alone in Morrowind as it's a single player game with a single character you control, and you almost never have anyone tagging along.
I personally love the game, I've put most likely hundreds of hours into it and I've still got lots more I can and want to do with it (so you're going to get your money's worth out of it). I'd say get it and have a go at it.. you'll be hooked.

Well Flange, when you do buy the game, you may find the manual lacking a little when it comes to explinations or instructions. I believe this was done on purpose to give the player a bit of challange. It might even be frustrating to some, usually to those who read the manual from cover to cover first. Personally I like to dive into the game and use the manual as a last resort. With this game it did not help much anyway. I started playing last November and if I didn't have a job, I'd play the dam thing 16 to 20 hours a day. As it is, I have to force myself to stop long enough to eat and sleep on the weekends. I can honestly say it is the BEST rpg I've played to date.
If I do have questions, this forum is a great place to get a variety of good and bad answeres and lots of laughs from the members postings and replies.
The game can give you as little or as much chalange as you like. You can cheat a little, a lot or not at all. If your into designing, you can even create your own mods (moduals) to add on to the game and submit them for others to try out.
Have fun and try not to get too addicted to to it.

Remember to download the current patch! There are some annoying bugs in the unpatched game.
Also, Tribunal and Bloodmoon are definitely worth getting. While the quests are mostly aimed at high level characters, the expansions add a really useful quests filter in the journal. Someone on this forum said once that Tribunal would be worth buying for that reason alone- that is, if it added nothing else it'd be worth the price for the journal fix! It's definitely a major improvement.
Plus, with Tribunal you get lots of excellent light armour, to wear or to sell.

I would have recommended picking up the Game of the Year edition if you could find it, it's a great value and adds quite a bit of life to the game, both in the plugin capabilities the expansions allow and the added content itself.
