I came across this case of Peter Moran, a teacher who lost his job because he didn't intervene in a fight between 8 teenage girls. I don't think I would have intervened either. In my view he was hard done by. I'm curious to know what would have happened in the US if this case had happened there.

At my high school, the policy is for the teachers to wait for the fighters to burn themselves out unless it gets bloody, at which point they can take em down SWAT style.
An 8-girl catfight? You couldn't pay me enough to get physically involved in that, unless you mean pulling out my wallet to place bets.

Why does it have to be just the teacher? Shouldn't the usual social response of a fight is to, you know, get the combatants away from each other? The whole class should've done something.

This might be new to you or something, but it's usually not a good idea to allow random spurts of wanton physical violence amongst schoolchildren.
