My screen has this annoying dark, cloudy spot in the horizontal middle and vertical top section that pulls me out of the immersion when playing stealth games. Last screen I had had the an almost identical spot. This time, I want to know I get something usable for stealth gaming, which leads me to ask:
Are there any new technological advances made in the last four, five years that make for better stealth gaming monitors? Is there a monitor model out there that is consistently usable for stealth gaming?

I think I know what spot you are talking about, it probably has to do with the monitor's pannel.
I myself have a Samsung Syncmaster 2470HD which has a TN panel, and the game looks great even in dark environments. I did have to download a little utility for my Nvidia card that allows games to render in Full RGB (0 - 255) and after that I had to adjust the brightness on my monitor so that black really shows as black instead of dark grey as I see on many monitors.
I'm not 100% sure about the panel thing though!
Edit: that monitor of mine is pretty old and is probably not on the market anymore, but there should be other monitors like it.
Edit 2: I did some research and apparently monitors with an IPS panel are supposed to display colors better but they are much worse for dark colors. I believe most samsung Monitors come with a TN panel, but you'll just have to check the specs of the monitors you're interested in

What you really want is a panel which uses OLED technology, which can manage true blacks. It's the only technology where the screen becomes invisible in the dark if it's displaying only black pixels.
The bad news is that they don't really exist yet outside of phones and huge (usually curved) TVs.
Dell are set to release a 30" 4K OLED panel soon (it was supposed to be out last month, but doesn't seem to have materialised), but unfortunately it's estimated to be $5,000 on release - ouch.
Sony also have some older, "professional" OLED panels, but those are even more expensive and mostly smaller sizes.
In brief - the best technology for stealth / dark games isn't really available yet, and even when it becomes available, it will take a while for it to come down to an affordable price.

I ended up not getting one, back then, but thanks for the followups, still. I did, however, buy a new, cheap Samsung at a discount just now, and am trying to decide whether to invoke the return policy or not. I figured this is the way I'm gonna have to do it: Buy, test, return, rinse, repeat, until I find one that works.
For the testing phase, I'd like to know the name of the nvidia utility you used, @Niborius. Thanks in advance.
