I grant I don't have the video in front of me to review ATM, but the "medusa hair" could be very easily explained away as the escape pod just not having artificial gravity.

Tommy was walking along the floor, yes, but velcro carpets and shoes would explain that (that's what NASA does presently, in fact). And it means that if she suddenly, abruptly stood up, her hair would keep fluttering outward like that. Makes for a very powerful scene and the visual symbolism is obvious, but the actual cause could be argued to be quite mundane and reasonable under the circumstances...
