And WOPR didn't even have a voice - Ferris Bueller simply hooked it up to his TTS library.
It's funny how the robotic voice provided by the kid's hardware is the exact same voice as the one in NORAD. Typical Hollywood shit.

Yeah I wondered about that. I used fanwank powers and decided that the techies had seen what he had got set up at home and duplicated it at NORAD for ease of communication

Let us not forget DAEDALUS, or Stephan Hawkings.

Stephen Hawking is a person, not a computer. :erg:

Maybe he meant Stephen Hawking's speech help device?
Or does it really only help him to speak?
AxTng1 on 3/3/2008 at 18:40
Are you serious?
The Prof uses what mobility he has in his cheek to access a menu, and he can put together words and sentances. His TTS then reads it out. It sounds exactly like the TextOLE I got with my SB16. You would think there would be upgrades available.
EDIT: Ah.

Hawking mentioned that he has not heard a voice he likes better and because he identifies with it. Hawking is said to be looking for a replacement since, other than being obsolete, the synthesizer, a DECtalk DTC01 is now considered large and fragile but as of present, finding a software alternative has been difficult.

Obviously you still believe that Stephen Hawking is anything more than an appendix of the alien made AI that writes his books, steers his wheelchair and feeds him royal jelly to keep him in good shape for the next 600 years.

Sorry I forgot that disabled people are funny on the internet. :(
Kolya on 4/3/2008 at 12:12
Oh no! It's me who forgot that you can't joke about disabled people like about "normal" people because they are ... you know, not like us.

+1 to ZB's suggestion of Mother.
