Wikipedia claims that ShockEd is fan made, in that case is the source code floating around on someone's computer? Could i perhaps acquire a copy? I'm

It's not fan-made, it's fan-released. Its components were put together in the package we know as ShockEd by fans from what could be retrieved after LGS folded. But they were already compiled.
As far as I know, the source code has never been released.

Gotcha. Is there a reference or spec for the dark engine map format floating around?

Some of it, certainly, architecture and such. Not sure how publicly documented it is, though there are a few utilities that make use of it.

Could someone please edit that wikipedia page to remove the reference for the release of ShockEd, since it's to a completely false article that says ShockEd is a third-party program written by the SS2 community?
Change the wording there, too, and perhaps link the the ShockEd release announcement on sshock2.com?

How's this?

Furthermore, the community at SShock2, a fan site, used resources retrieved following the demise of Looking Glass Studios to put together a free level editor package entitled ShockEd.
It's not perfect, but it at least implies that the resources were not made by the community. Someone who was around when it was being worked on could probably be more specific. The reference links to Saam's announcement.

For one thing I put that on the (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:System_Shock_2) discussion page of the SS2 article when I first found out. Secondly there were plans set in motion by LG and TTLG people to get the editor
before LG went out of business. So saying it was retrieved following their demise would be just as misleading, because there wasn't any link to the studio going out of business.
Oh well, I see you went ahead and changed it already.
EDIT: And now I changed it again. Man, it's like the wikipedia wars all over! ;)

My bad. I thought it all had happened after they closed.
