And where are they supposed to get all those people from?
Seriously, CCP had (briefly) one modeller good enough to make AI meshes, and nothing has been heard from him in a while. There simply don't seem to be people with the skill interested in helping such projects.
Where do you think? You recruit people to work on packages, (monsters, weapons).
Oh yeah, one says they don't need a team now.
We'll see how many years it takes you to finish one damned level.
You will NEVER get this done.
Bad luck!

I think that realistically there just aren't enough talented and interested people to all work together in a coherent, structured and consistant manner. If you had suggested a team of about half a dozen or so people then you may have a point - but 16 people just on the character models alone? That's just not going to happen.
Well, as a commercial project it would be possible, but only because you're paying them and able to contract them into the work. You meantion this experience is from your current production. What sort of production is it? Commercial or a free mod?

I'd almost go so ar as to say you'll be lucky if you get
one person to do character modelling.

If I had you on my team, I certainly wouldn't get much done. You're entirely right.

Christ, use common sense. It was just an "idea," to "help" you on the project, instead of spear heading the project yourself. If you say, that getting people to work on this project is not going to happen, then RECRUIT, and prove me wrong.
But for fucks sake, just try to get a team, it will help. Whil this is not a commercial subject, and you're obviously not paying them, just have everyone keep track of what they do.
My production is currently commercial, but not paid for, as it is a University promotional advertisement for our 3D studio and gaming lab.

There simply
aren't any people who love the series and are near professional 3d character modelers with the time to spare. It's not like there's a whole community we're overlooking, chief.

I have no idea at all why you're being so hostile in this thread, but anyone here who has tried a conversion project isn't going to put in a bunch of time and effort for the sake of proving you wrong. If there were people to be found, they would have been already.

Not sure who it's directed at, but if you're referring to NV then shame on you.

From the very start of Aircraftkiller's original thread:

If anyone's interested, let me know; I've had experience leading mods for about three years and worked on C&C Renegade in 2002 as a multiplayer level designer... It'd be really spectacular to get a SS1 total conversion finished.
From what I've read he's not had any serious takers, and I've seen countless other remakes requesting people to assist but nothing ever comes of it. You are absolutely correct - a huge, disciplined, talented team will produce good quality work and achieve their goals quicker than one person by themselves. That
is common sense. However, where I disagree is that I do not believe there are enough people with the willingness and commitment to make it work in that way for this project.
My hopes are that Aircraftkiller continues doing things as and when he can, doesn't get burned out by the project and leaves the models he's created for future use
if the project is left unfinished.

Excellent. It sounds like you have a bunch of motivated (and I would hope talented) people who have a vested interest in doing the work because it will either attract work to the lab or will show off their talents for future jobs. I wish you the best with it, but it's not comparable to a system shock total conversion project.

I'm not talking about NV, he's not the one saying I won't get anywhere :) As far as I'm concerned Hackmaster can fuck right off.

School / work / relationships / social life / family pressures - all of these can easily take precedence over working on a system shock remake. I think you (and Kodan for that matter) have the right attitude. Do what you can, when you can and look on it as something to relax doing.
So far the percentage of attempted System Shock 1 remakes that have been completed is 0%. In some respects this isn't too surprising, it took a team of programmers, modellers, graphic artists and a support team a substantial amount of time to create the original game. Creating a remake is far, far more involved than just putting some maps, textures, models and sounds into a new engine.
That's not being negative about the work you're doing - it's vital to any remake and shows great promise. I'm looking forward to animated AI meshes since that will be one of the areas that hasn't been properly developed up to now for SS1.
