To be honest, all the barrel designs have been about 100 times better than the original sprites, and have been as close as can be expected. It would be better to just have something 'really good' that can be altered later if required, and move onto the next exciting thing, than worry about every little detail now. (I'm not criticizing anyone here, just stating what I think is a more productive policy). Then anyone doing modelling doesn't get bored with constant revisions of the same model, each of which is liked by different people. Instead they can maybe just make a small revision but then move on to something else, and we will see more work done.
Re: rounded barrel bottoms - they seemed fine to me. If I had to move a big barrel around by hand it would make it much easier to tilt and rotate it along that edge. Being full of explosive liquid would make it heavy, so it would obviously be designed to make movement as easy as possible. The original sprite was too lo-res to show such detail, but it is entirely suitable to a 3D image.
I'm not saying don't post suggestions, since they are generally really useful - but I don't think constant minor revisions of a barrel will add as much to the chances of seeing SS1 re-done as doing extra models would while we have someone with the talent and inclination.

Didn`t mean my comments in my last post as a critisizm (sp?) or rude, just an opinion. But like I said, its just a barrel. I`m just eagerly awaiting a new model.

Instead of spending many hours refining a single minor decorative object and soliciting feedback on every iteration of it, why not work in silence on a large set of objects, or a smaller set of creature models, and show them all off once there's a reasonable body of completed work? Showing off minor pieces one by one slows down development, encourages people to nitpick each one to death and makes the designer themselves overly cautious and fastidious.

Agreed 100%

No wonder all the SS1 remakes have failed with this crowd

Because for this to succeed, I want to satisfy most of you picky types. I'm also the type that wants my artwork shown and commented on so I can see it from different perspectives and hopefully improve it with the criticism. Sure, it's only a barrel, but when I start working on things like the robots and levels, I bet you'll be happy that I posted the work here before I got tired of working on it.
I don't mind the criticism. If I did I wouldn't post my work here. I'd probably tell people to fuck off by now. :) I'm trying to finish my project because I'd like to have this done before I leave AI in 2009, or before I go to work in the field again.

Vigil is right though. You ain't gonna finish the mod before 2009 if you intend to continue development at this pace.
Aircraftkiller on 5/5/2007 at 17:29
No shit. It does take time to organize a team for developing something like this. At the moment I'm just working by myself and balancing a lot of things in my life in the process. You've been waiting since 1994, I'm sure a couple of years isn't going to bother you. ;)
Bjossi on 5/5/2007 at 17:33
I was 6 years old in 1994, not much of horror games played on my computer back then. :p
Well, you should have more stuff to show next time. Personally I think the barrel is great right now, you could start on the guns, like the Magpulse or the Magnum 2100.
Aircraftkiller on 5/5/2007 at 18:25
I really want to do the Magnum. Fucking love that cannon of a handgun. :) It's a shame that there's very little in the way of references for the weapons. Do you know of any concept art for SS1 besides the cyborg warrior, cyborg Deigo, and cyborg assassin? Something that might help a bit more. I've been doing searches for the Rob Waters concept art... Can't find anything else
