A concave top surface would be nice. Also the skull looks too realistic. This should be a print and have more symbolic character. Both symbols (radioactive and skull) should look a bit more damaged.

I'll fix the skull later. I figure it's a small creative liberty to make it look shaded instead of a flat logo; but I'll put both in and see which one you guys like better. Just bear in mind that you won't see these often (and if you're like me, you just blow them up when you do see them) so very minor details like that aren't too important. :)
I do plan to rip up the radioactive warning and the skull a bit, though. As for a concave surface, I don't see that in the reference I worked from. Granted, it's a bit small, but it does look like a flat surface at top.

you might want to use WHMIS labels..i think it makes sense that they would be found on such barrels

I'm sure the first thing you notice in a full shadow / light SS1 full remake is ... "that skull looks TOO REALISTIC! BLASPHEMY!!" :weird:

You just need to look at it from a realistic standpoint, would a real barrel have a real-looking skull, or more animaic one? A real barrel wouldn't have that much detail, so id be more animeic, in the sence of drawing that looks like a skull, damaged and corroded looks ...

It all depends, it's not that difficult to spraypaint a drawing-like logo on something these days and we're looking at 2072 technology in barrel design, man. Fucking barrels will poon you harder than SHODAN if you give them a chance.

The barrel looks great. Personally, I wouldn't bother too much about the skull detail - there is so little to go on from the original that it is fine. Though if you don't mind making small changes (and it doesn't take long), then it probably makes sense to go along with any changes where there seems to be a majority agreement. I noticed that the radioactive symbol was a different way up too - but only because I was comparing the two. I would never notice in-game.
[To everyone] Can completed assets like this go up on a server somewhere (maybe Kolya's pages)? Perhaps along with other recently finished things (like the excellent first room textures and servbot JukkaKevät did?) And anything by GLen and others? Then at least it is all available in one place if someone else starts a project.
