Don't listen to those anti-Vista people, the thing is when they don't know how to fix a problem they attack the OS if it is made by Microsoft. It's human nature. ;)
But about your problem. You could always email nVidia and ask about your problem. I have even heard about one being able to request support for a game in future releases, or at least link them to a petition or something.
Dark Engine-games support in next drivers would be sweet for all the fans of Thief and SS2 that have a Geforce.

Thanks for that Bjossi - ill try that! The fact I can get SS2 working perfectly with SHTUP under Vista is pleasing enough, but to have Rebirth as well would be nice. I still have my XP box so I can play the Rebirth version on that - just would be nice to play it on my new machine.

Well, obviously, just try different drivers.
Aside from that, the simplest solution to the problem is to not use Vista though.
EDIT: And in regards to contacting Nvidia, good luck. Just have a look at all the help people got when new NV drivers broke AvP1.

Downgrading an OS is simple?

I dont WANT to downgrade from Vista. Its runs everything else fine, except SS2 with models NOT made when it was released, a good 8 years ago. That's fairly backwards compatible if you ask me.

Yeah, stick with Vista and update drivers when new ones are released, until you see the magic happen.

Alternately, start downgrading drivers (if possible; I don't know how far back the nV driver builds for Vista extend) until you hit a version that works. nV has a nasty habit of breaking a different set of games with each driver release, so if the latest one doesn't work, then working backwards will sometimes find a version that does.
Of course, this inevitably means that some other game that was previously working fine is going to break after you install the older drivers. Such is life with an nV video card.

The game is working fine on Vista for some people so there must be a version that does lack this issue.
If you find the version, use it until a new driver is released. If that fails, downgrade again. It's a hassle but will make Dark Engine games comfy to play.
