They still whimper. It's the whimper that kills me. :(
Would it bother you if they still wimpered but weren't dogs? You could probably find the file with the right model and swap them out, visually, for (wimpering) SS2 Annelid-Arachnids. That'd be totally cool. :laff:

I just can't play through the game without having the choice between killing my victims quickly, with the assault rifle and/or shotgun, blowing them into giblets with the GEP gun, or roasting them to a slow death with the flame thrower. I
won't. That's 99% of the fun!
This is, without doubt, one of the most intensely lame things I have ever seen a supposed Deus Ex fan write.

Don't you feel proud. And we're all glad for you too.

Hey. Regardless of whether ZB decides to give himself accolades, he's right about not cheating. Using the inventory bug gives people a huge advantage. Playing with a limited inventory is part of the fun and challenge. Players develop a style, and need to learn how to manage their resources. Also, having limited firepower options means taking more time to search for ammunition for the weapons the player has, Honest players don't have a bunch of other weapons to use to make their ammunition usage more distributed over a range of inventory-bug weapons.
Deus Ex has replay value because of inventory limitation (and therefore weapon choice), augmentation choice, and skill choice, in addition to the myriad of ways to solve each problem presented by the map and enemies themselves.
You may say you have the right to use the bug and cheat like hell, and later decide that's the fun way to play. But you're missing out on a lot if you don't challenge yourself. That's life. You have a right to do it that way, but don't expect others to congratulate you for taking the easy road.

Actually throwing weapons are great since he combined combat strength/microfibial muscles, so just turn it on and aim your throwing weapons at the head for instant kill, or throw objects at heads for instant knock out!
Combat knives do disappear BTW, so pack half a dozen.
Good point. Never tried it, but I assume you have. Never thought it would work with throwing since technically speaking it's not melee, and Microfibral is supposed to work with melee only.
While I haven't yet "stooped" to cheating, I do think the limited inventory sucks big time. I'd like something to actually increase the size of the inventory window ( rather than a plain annoying stacking bug ). "Develop a style", personally I feel it's just a cheap way to add replay value. A "style" IMHO would be a good thing, but it would mean a more realistic approach, like being limited to carrying around just one handgun + one rifle ( or heavy weapon ). Here you can still carry 5 handguns + a GEP + shotgun + sniper rifle, and more... Oh I see it's a nano-augmented backpack! At this rate, why not all weapons? I never really got to use the Flamethrower nor the Plasma Rifle, simply because of that limitation.

So you think the limited inventory sucks, but an even more limited inventory would be a good thing.
Riiiight.

Put in simplistic & sarcastic terms, yes. They are two different styles.
In the case of a limitless inventory, you would have a less-hassle, easy-going game, like most FPS, where you can pick your favorite weapon for any situation, and to hell with realism. I don't consider the DX inventory realistic as it is.
Or in the case of a further limited choice of weapons, you would have had a more realistic & immersive game. Not necessarily by making the inventory window smaller, perhaps simply by using "weapons counters" forbidding you to have more than one type of each weapon in the window. Or perhaps by not using a inventory window at all, merely a list of items, but various weapons using the same slot, and thus you would have to drop your assault rifle to grab the snipe, etc. Of course it would have meant a different approach to the game ( Sam Carter letting you choose weapons etc before each mission ) & a slightly different interface. Implementing this in the game as it is would probably suck.
The existing inventory feels like a compromise between realism & basic FPS carnage, and I feel it would have been better to go fully one way or the other. But I guess it caters for all tastes.

Forcing the player to just pick two or three weapons would be MORE artificial, not less. What, does a magical fairy stop the player from carrying four weapons if they want to?
Under Deus Ex's system, you're given a finite amount of inventory space to store whatever you want. If you want to play a sociopathic loon who simply must carry around several weapons, then you can-- at the expense of carrying other items. On the other hand, if you specialize in just one or two weapons then you can use the extra space for other goodies.
It's all about allowing the player to make interesting, meaningful decisions with the resources they're given.

This is sounding an awful lot like IW...
Also, if you really want to play it that way..you CAN. Simply force yourself to throw away your assault rifle when you want to pick up a sniper rifle.
It's the exact same result, only with less code, more willpower. It's not hard.

:laff: I know, it's pathetic, but it's my style, which was probably heavily influenced by large doses of SS2. It's the only other game I own with a limited inventory, and you get 45 slots compared to 30, no item takes up more than 4 slots IIRC, and you can store whatever you don't need right away somewhere safe for most of the game. If even the last point applied to DX, that would cut down considerably on my cheating.

Honestly, it never did anything except piss me off. :erg: I'm not used to such a restricted inventory, and it'll take a while for it to happen. I'm still organizing my inventory like I'm playing SS2, suits of armor of the same type are stacked, same with weapon mods, weapons that take up 8 slots are stacked with another weapon of the same size, effectively reducing their size to 4 slots, etc.

I never expected to be congratulated, I know I'm cheating. I did play honestly my first time through the game, and I was so used to larger inventories that DX's was driving me crazy. I may not even use half the stuff I carry, but I just like it being there.
The game has enough problems on my computer that I probably wouldn't play it at all if I didn't have a way of playing it that made it
extremely fun. Massive killing sprees and a variety of ways to murder people are what I ended up with. Hate me for it if you want, but it's my way of doing things.
