Um, I don't know if anyone else has noticed this or if it's all in my mind.. But all through the game I have heard the bleeting of sheep!
And in the early stages, when I first began to play Mw, I actually went and looked for them; to no avail, of course.
So what's the deal here?? Is it some strange inside joke by Bethesda, or just a funny factor they forgot to implement?

I noticed it too. Particularly in the Ashlands there's that thunderous "BHAAHHAAHHHAA!!" It scared me at first, I thought there was some huge montrous sheep just around the next boulder. Later on, I half expected Dagoth Ur to be a demonic half-goat type dude and the one making those sounds.

There was rather a long thread on this over at the offical forums, titled "The elusive phantom sheep". Either the sheep of Vvardenfell have mastered the art of constant-effect invisibility, or it's just some other animal imitating a sheep in order to confuse and infuriate the PC.
*beehhhhehhhhhhhhhhheehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*

I vote for the invisible sheep theory. After all, what are all those toothy predators eating if there are no herbivores in all of Vvardenfell?
Just because we can't see them doesn't mean they aren't watching!

It's a good question... I mean, you've got about 1/4 of this friggin' huge island that's called "The Grazelands", but has anyone ever seen any herbivores out there besides the occasional guar? My own theory is that sheep once blanketed the Grazelands (among other places) but then the Nords came.
Let's face it, the Nords are great warriors but they're just a bit.. odd. With a few exceptions, they wear fur armor in the hottest parts of the island and have a certain fixation (if the Bloodmoon screenshots are any indication) with wearing bits of animals all over their bodies. My guess is that they wear the furs and heads of animals they respect as warriors, and they'd probably have them stuffed if they knew how.
On the other hand, stuffing sheep is something that any male Nord can do. I have no doubts that sheep developed a protective chameleon ability shortly after the first Nord boat landed. ;)
Edit: *laugh* "great" minds think alike...

Are guars herbivores? They are used as pack animals, but take a look at their teeth! Unless they eat trees that like to struggle, I think their chompers are a little too sharp and plentiful for a plant eater. I suppose netches might eat plants - as I'm not even sure they have teeth, it is hard to check if they are pointy. Scribs are also an unknown. Like netches, they don't attack and their insect-like mouths don't give much information. However, they strike me more as scavengers than plant eaters, for some reason.
Ah well . . . just another wonderful mystery of Morrowind - like why people would keep a handful of herbs in every large pot/crate in their house, why male Nords get into some much trouble with the ladies, and why Dagoth Ur's voice belongs on a male model.
BHHAAAAAAAAWWWWWWW!!!!!!!

Guars look semi-aquatic to me. It's that round head and the nostrils are almost on top. I imagine they're like hippos, which have big nasty teeth even though they're herbovores. Maybe guars use their big teeth for fighting.
Something else I've thought about: Alits don't have eyes. At least as far as I can tell. They must rely on smell perhaps.
Hortator on 24/4/2003 at 08:21
No I think they do have eyes, just very very small ones. :cheeky:
But interesting theory aobut the semi-aquaticism (), maybe they evolved from Slaughterfish.. :laff:

That sound is in fact called
Morrowind\Data Files\Sound\Fx\REGN\howl7.wav
So no references to any sheep, though it in fact sounds like a sheep.
It is also funny to play with the other howl sounds - I loaded howl3 and howl4 in a wave editor and played it with quadrople speed... :cheeky:
