Well I`ve yet to see one single person on this earth to date, be sued by a games company for making a mod or TC. Aslong as its not making money then it doesn`t hurt the company.
I`ve seen many mods with microsoft things in there. And there was never a peep from Microsoft with those. And I hardly doubt there would be with this either, as Microsoft will NEVER make a Shadowrun game. As its not their style. Age of Empires is more theirs.

Actually, a lot of mods have been lately, cause of Halo. All the 14 year old wannabe halflife modders are trying to make it, and for UT2k3, and the MS gestapo is shutting them down. Plus there's LucasArts, and Blizzard, and Id. If you touch any of their stuff, you're done...
Actually, now that I think of it, there's a couple of guys that tried to make a shadowrun mod for ut2k3, and now i think they are making a mod 'based' off of william gibson's stuff.
I dunno, he can try, but I know shadowrun like the back of my hand, and would love to make THE shadowrun mod, but it's just not going to happen. He's better off just writing his own story and borrowing elements from the cyberpunk genre.

Or you could do the entire mod and just change the name of it.

Well, it doesn't matter either way, because Shadowrun doesn't exactly have a story. It's a pen and paper game, which means it's just a gaming system, and the players make up the story, so he still has to do a lot of work, and if he does actual research into Shadowrun itself, he might realize that it's a lot more work that he bargained for. I think it would be in his best intrests if he just created a world from scratch, and there's also the peace of mind of not stealing someone else's work and just changing the name.
