For those of you who are into stealth-strategy, Shadow Gambit launched yesterday.

It plays a lot like Mimimi's other games in the genre, with a few new twists.
One of them is that you get to choose the order in which you unlock your characters, and get to choose which ones you take on most missions.
That does mean that they've had to put extra effort into balancing the different characters so you'd have a reason to pick each one of them. The previous games in the genre tended to have a few characters who didn't get used much, such as the Sniper in Commandos and his equivalent Takuma in Shadow Tactics, because they just had powerful abilities with very limited uses. I like how they fixed that problem with the sniper character in Shadow Gambit, by giving her a single bolt which she has to recover from the body before she can shoot again, making it a much more strategic ability rather than an ability you try to avoid using because it is a valuable resource.
The plot seems a little weak so far - cursed pirates are after treasure, bad religious fanatics want to get it first - and it's a little too un-serious for my tastes in general, but the story is kind of just a backdrop for the gameplay anyway.

And now (
https://www.mimimi.games/our-final-game/) Mimimi have announced that this will be the studio's last game.
They are closing down due to it being too stressful to make high-quality games like this, especially with the constant need to fight for funding in a niche genre, where rising production costs will make it unsustainable.
Sad to see them go, all their games were great, and I'm a fan of the stealth-strategy genre which they single-handedly revived.

Loved Shadow Tactics, couldn't really get into Desperados 3, haven't played the new one BUT YES, this is a damn shame. Their games seemed to be doing well, critically and commercially, so it's surprising and saddening that it didn't work out. :erg: They truly were the masters of this particular niche.
