I still think you are overloading your server with poor cache settings. I have downloaded your forum graphics, buttons, smilies, etc, THOUSANDS of times - these very same graphics - and no doubt every other user is too every time they visit. My browser cache is set to NEVER refresh unless forced to. When I look in my cache I see images from other sites that stay there for weeks (I have a large cache setting) but all the ttlg images disappear when I close my browser (Opera 6) and download all over again next visit.
Not only is this slow for me (on a modem dial up connection) but surely it must overload your servers? This might constitute 90% of your bandwidth?
On a Unix Apache server the cache setting is in the .htaccess file. Don't know what server you are using. Many images hardly change for years, why keep transferring them?
I wrote this in a text editor. As I am waiting for the post page to appear I am looking at the images in my cache and watching one by one as they download all over yet again. I'm no expert but surely something is wrong? There's nothing more I can do - my browser cache is set to max use.
[EDIT]
BTW An obvious exception are the google adverts which need to refresh.

Caching settings seem to be fine. Images for the forums take up 9% of our bandwidth, which seems about right to me.
When I open the forums in Firefox and disable the cache then I can see the images pop in one by one, else they're loaded straight from the cache.
I will have a look tonight when I get home, but initially it looks fine.

Is that if you close Firefox then open it again they are still in its cache? If so then there is something wrong with my Opera. Unless Firefox can override server cache settings. Thanks.

There may be a problem with Opera 6. You may want to upgrade to 8.5(Opera is free now) and see if the problem still exists.

I have also tweaked the cache settings for the forum images so they are only checked once every 30 days or so, which should be more than adequate.

Thanks David.
Thanks also Salvage. Wow! Opera free now? That's been the only reason I haven't upgraded. I'll get 8 and give it a go.

Pleased to report that I have upgraded to Opera 8 and the caching works fine now. All images retained in cache and pages load much faster. Thanks for all help! Even the smilies work for me now! :thumb:
