The latest episode of doctor who. It was 1 hour ago. It was physical pain watching it. I can't believe that ANYONE enjoyed watching that piece of legalise vadalism. I also can't believe how we can go from the excellence of 'the impossible planet' and 'the satan pit' and go to this piece of monkey excrement. (no offence MM if your reading.)
THIS IS PROOF THAT RUSSEL T CANNOT WRITE A GOOD SCRIPT.
p.s. I AM AWARE THAT A KID DESIGNED THE MONSTER, AND NO, THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR THIS ABOMINATION.
(I really need to get out more)

That was more or less obvious from watching the first series.
There were only two good episodes (the WWII ones) and they were both written by Steven Moffat.

y'know what would be awesome?
Keeping all the Doctor Who discussion in one of the previous Doctor Who threads.
Otherwise, I didn't actually think it was that bad an episode. Probably a bad decision to do an episode exploring the effects that the Doctor has on the random ass people who aren't otherwise involved so early in the revitilization of the series, (the focus should be pretty strictly on the Doctor still, and given that there are only three episodes left this series, the whole Torchwood build up should consist of more than a character saying "Torchwood" once per episode) but I think if this episode had actually come in Series 5 or 6 it wouldn't generally be considered bad.

After the awesomeness of the past couple of eps, I was pretty disappointed with this one myself. I can see the value in doing an ep from the perspective of someone who's life has been touched by the doctor. And the one good thing in the entire ep was when Elton notes how that inevitably leads to people dying.
But the execution was so... lame

I felt like they meant to do it as camp (because of Peter Kay maybe?). If that wasn't their intention then oops! ;) I liked Marc Warren's part in it. I got a chuckle at the footage shot in his room especially with the ELO references.

Russell: Hey, I've got this idea...
Crew: Go ahead
Russell: How about we get Danny Blue and Moaning Myrtle to run around looking for the Doctor for Peter Kay, and use as much footage from S1 as possible?
Crew: Sure thing. What's the monster of the week?
Russell: Bad news... After the furry incident in ep1 of this series, I had to fire the monster people. Luckily we scammed Blue Peter viewers into thinking we would make their creations on the telly! I just had to white-out the line that said "has to be the size of a double-decker bus" and lo! We have our monster!
Crew: But how can we make the episode even worse to fit quota?
Russell: Easy! We do that stupid "running from right-to-left-to-right" gag, and have our ebil guy have access to the Torchwood files with NO EXPLANATION!
Crew: (Applause)...

Yeah . . . after the excellence of The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit, Love and Monsters was a luge letdown.
I can understand the motivation behind this episode, and why RTD and company would want to make it. It was an interesting idea, an experiment. And it could have gone well. But it didn't. It really sucked.
Davies has always been the weakest writer (though I thought Tom Macrae did a pretty lousy job on The Age of Steel, the second Cyberman episode). Weakest, in the sense that he almost always indulges in too much over the top humor, and campiness. Doctor Who is not a comedy!
However, he has proven that when he sets his mind to it and stays serious: he can write a good episode. Tooth and Claw was proof of that.
So if he would just stop writing such campy drivel and stay more serious, then Doctor Who will be much better off.
