Check another Shepherd Book here:
Shepherd Derrial Book 88%
Inara Serra 69%
Zoe Alleyne Washburne 63%
Simon Tam 56%
Kaylee Frye 56%
Inara 69%... I'll spare you the easy joke :joke:
So this test is saying that setting aside the Sephard I have most things common with all the females from the series plus Simon (who is not such a male-ish character, after all). If someone wants something from me, I'll just be over there feeling sorry for my lost masculinity...

Why should I be interested in this film?
Because it's really good.

The trailer was made of the same shit that every other semi-recent scifi film is: annoying techno-trash music pumping in the background, lots of cgi explosions and a scantly clad babe kicking ass, some lame wisecracks, actors trying to look all intense -- based on this trailer, I'd say it looks like crap.
Yeah, the trailers blew.
OH MY GOD THEY KILLED OFF BOOK AND WASH!!!!!!!!!! :wot: How could they DO that!!!!????:nono:
I've been a Firefly fan since it first appeared on TV and have loved it absolutely, so you can just guess how psyched I've been about the movie being released WAY earlier than I ever thought it would. I've joined just about everything there is to join in order to add my voice to those clammering to have the series brought back. Don't know if that'll happen, but enjoyed the film anyway (except for the parts mentioned in the spoiler above..........THAT SUCKED!!!!!) Why didn't they play the theme song, though?? That still confuses me! I mean, that song is Firefly. I'm gonna go watch the series again....need a Firefly fix!

Here's a cool thing. It's basically the first 9(!) minutes of the movie. There are spoilers, of course. It's a good introduction, if you still haven't decided if you're gonna see the movie or not.

(It's a really crappy active-x movie player plugin thing though, but it works..)

For those who have not seen Firefly but are thinking about Serenity I would highly recommend watching the entire series on DVD first then seeing the movie while it is out in cinemas (if possible).
My reason for this is that when I saw it I went with a bunch of friends, one of whom had seen the first three episodes, (the others have seen none). I know for a fact that the moments that have been mentioned in spoilers elsewhere in this thread affected me more than the others. I also had a better feel for the whole thing and was able to see more of the subtle points.
As has been said earlier, it does stand on its own. However, I think you will get slightly more out of it if you have seen the series.
Now lets keep our fingers crossed for a sequel or two (or even a tv series). In terms of rights I believe universal has the rights for a trilogy (and all of the main cast are signed on for one). For the tv show, fox allowed Whedon to try and sell it to other networks (this happened after Firefly was cancelled but before Universal agreed to fund a movie). So who knows, maybe tv can still happen?

Man, would I love to see a good, intelligent sci-fi film.
I'd say Firefly is to Star Wars what Fallout was to X-Com.
Also... Mal shot first. ;)

Mal always shoots first.

:( Serenity isn't doing so well...
It has fallen down dramatically in the past week. It is only at about 13 million or so. If it doesn't pick up soon we might not see a trilogy. That's way too bad. How does Star Wars episode 3 even make half a million and this can't even make its money back? Then again, they haven't released worldwide yet, but I really do hope that this movie does well.

Star Wars functions by name alone now, not substance. They could have had a chimp playing the role of Anakin and it still would have made half a bil...hey, wait, they did put a chimp into the role! See?! Hehe. Sorry, I can't have much respect for a series that tried incorporating N' Synch as a cameo guest.
Thank God for Serenity, though. More substance, more thought and better acting. And because it didn't have a chimp or the threat of N'Synch, it isn't going to make half a billion. Not fair, man, not fair.

I blame the vanilla ad campaign. Makes it look like a low-rent 5th Element.
