I don't know, they set it up too early that River was a bad ass killing machine for everyone to die. If she'd have broken that massive ass-kicking out for the first time on the Reavers, then I wouldn't have been so sure that most of them would survive. The only death I didn't see coming was Wash's, and that's because it was so sudden. Book's, even though I hated it, was set up enough that I could see it coming at least afew minutes in advance. I was hoping someone else would die after they killed Wash, making it seem more like a series ender or something. For a minute (very briefly) there I thought they were going to put that Assassin on the ship at the end when he walked up like that. It reminded me of Book and Simon/River joining the cast.
Just watched it, fantastic. Best sci-fi movie I've seen since I can remember.

Finished Firefly earlier today (like, 1 A.M. :p ). Excellent series. Which is, of course, what everyone's been saying for the past 3 years. Umm.. does this count as fashionably late? No? :(
Based on my almost non-existant ability to cut-and-paste my movie experience so that my brain thinks that it saw the series first, I can say that the movie does a very good job of standing alone, but there are enough plot-arch episodes that make the movie that much deeper. Foundations, and all that. Of course, now I have to watch it again. Shucks. :laff:
While watching the series, I tried to think about dhaelis' theory, and I'm beginning to agree. Also, River is awesome. The way she glanced at the dancers and joined in perfectly? Mimiced Badger? Heh.
One thing does confuse me (Series question, not movie): In 'Safe', didn't Simon realize that River was pyschic when she learned about the sudden change in leadership? If so, why was he so doubtful during 'Objects in Space'?

Hey - looks like it did about 10 mil this weekend, right behind Flight Plan. This is a good sign. :)

I hadn't seen Firefly, though I'd heard about it. All good things, but I just never got around to seeing it.
That being said, Serenity fucking rocked. Holy shit. Me and all my friends , who ranged from people like me, who knew of the series and liked Whedon's other cred but hadn't seen the show, to people who had maybe seen an episode or two, to one guy who was all "wait... what TV show?" when we mentioned Firefly, all thought it rocked.
It was like "shit, this is what Sci-Fi SHOULD be." One comment was that this is probably what seeing the first Star Wars as a kid was like. The universe is just so inventive and well-written and all the characters so real.
I'm planning on buying Firefly on DVD now. In fact I went down to Future Shop right after the movie to try and get it, but they were all out, new shipment should get in today, but today is my busy day, class-wise, so I didn't get around to it. But the movie is that good, from an outsider's perspective. It's "oh shit, I need to go get the DVD's, and then watch the movie again after seeing the series" good.
I really hope this gets picked up for another series, and the trilogy would be good. I like Joss Whedon, and this is fun sci-fi. This certainly felt like a movie, albiet it feels like movie 2 or 3, because while it stands alone, there are a lot of scenes where there is History that you are aware of.
Anyways, go see this movie. Or give Universal $10 if you don't really want to see the movie. Either is acceptable.
