I doubt we'll see a new TV show for a while, since from what I read Fox still owns the rights for a 'Firefly' series. On the one hand, if the film is succesful (oh please oh please oh please), Fox might look at it and go 'Hmmm, someone might be interested in purchasing the rights to Firefly now, let's jack up the price for those rights' and then no one buys them because they're too expensive. Scenario #2, the movie tanks and, well, no one wants to buy back the rights from Fox.
Regarless, more Firefly would be a great thing!

Don't worry though, Joss said that if there is a sequel (come on people, watch the movie!)
It's my current understanding that all the main characters are already under contract for a trilogy. Which, as everyone says, can't be a bad thing :)

I doubt FOX has rights to Firefly anymore, because Sci-Fi bought the series. I'd make a guess that they are going to continue the series if the movie does well.
I just saw it today, and WOW! That was amazing. I loved it. It is done very well. It feels like the TV show, yet it doesn't feel like it was made for TV, as an extra polish has been added. One thing...
How are Wash and Shepperd supposed to come back? I hope they don't bring them back to life.

Speaking of which... Noooo!!!!! They killed off my favorite character. Poor Wash. The audience started laughing after his line, then it was all cut dead silent when the spike went through his chest. Sigh, poor guy.

But it does show that Joss Whedon cared more about this movie itself as being good rather than just trying to market for a sequel.

Fuck that, Book was the only character in that goddamn show I really enjoyed watching, and he was killed pointlessly without even having a really good part in the movie. No cool "Fuzzy about kneecaps" lines or anything. I'm pissed.
And Sci-Fi doesn't own the show, they just bought the rights to show the re-runs. That's a completely different thing. Not the same thing that happened with Stargate SG-1.

Just saw it (mainly 'cause of this thread) and was very impressed. Best sci-fi movie I've seen since the original Matrix.

Let's just hope that it doesn't end up like the Matrix Trilogy, where the first one ruled and the last two buried the Wachowski Brothers' Credibility. I'm crossing my fingers that this movie will do well.
I am an anti-fan of the new Star Wars. If episode 3, possibly the worst movie ever made, can reel in loads of cash then this better do well. I do wish that the space scenes were done with no sounds though. It would be more realistic, since space has no atmosphere.

I just got back from this and I can't believe how amazing it was. It certainly helped that i knew the characters from seeing the TV series, but even without that this movie still rocked.
I have to be honest in that ever single thing i've seen in a theater for the past 2 years or so has either been a waste or severly dissapointed me. I hope to god that this movie does well, and that the damn people with money recognize that we don't want more recycled tripe, we want well crafted, polished films like this.
My one gripe...
They killed wash! He was a part of the crews soul. God damn it!
Though I do have to recognize the fact that they do it in such a way where you honestly go "Holy shit. Wash. No."
Though that last half of the film, wow. When they say a film is like a rollercoaster, this is the kind of film they mean.
The best thing about Wash dying was that it kept the pressure on the main characters (and the audience) through that scene. It wasn't "Ship crash, ok now get your brerath back before the next bit".
Pyrian on 2/10/2005 at 17:12
Plus, it really set the stage for the tense battle scene coming - y'know, it destroyed the sense of main-character-invulnerability by saying "yes, Reavers can kill main characters, now here they come for the rest of 'em", which was cool.
Taffer36 on 2/10/2005 at 19:08
Definitely! At one point I thought everyone was going to die. Kaylie, Simon, River, everyone. It really makes you wonder if anyone will live. They aren't invincible.
