I read a bunch of the quotes on imdb, and there is a lot of sexual tension. It's basically a sit-com, with the background of RESISTAUNCE! fighters (had to spell that one phonetically, to emphasize the frenchness of it).
Anyway, I'll probably give it a watch.

I'm definitely seeing this when it comes out. Does it feel like a very long show or does it feel like an actual movie? I saw the trailer and had the feeling that it would be more like a TV show, but I'm not sure.
I just hope that Sci-Fi decides to continue on the series after the movie. Poor Joss Whedon had to put up with Fox executives breathing down his neck.

Just saw it. Overall verdict: excellent!
I've seen the same question pop up a few times here and around other places on the web, something along the lines of 'Does this feel like a 2 hour TV show'? That's a hard question to answer in this case, since the only thing I can answer is that it very much feels like Firefly. I'm not saying it's just a two hour show, because there's a level of polish attached to this movie that obviously wasn't present in the show. But it's the same characters, the same wit and it's an excellent continuation to the story. And I remember reading an interview where Joss Whedon said that 'he pulled no punches with this movie', and I agree completely. He and the rest of the crew felt so strongly about the stories they needed to tell with these characters that they just couldn't let them go that easily, and it shows since I find there's a lot of heart that went into this movie.
Now, there's one part in this movie that reminded me of Revenge of the Sith, but done right! What I mean is...
When the Serenity comes through a nebulae cloud of some sort closely followed by whole whack of Reaver ships, going nose to nose with the Allliance ships. The chaos that ensues from those huge ships going at each other and the sheer destuction all around was excellently portrayed. I find that at the beginning of Episode III, there was just too much stuff going on with no clear focus, no real connection for the audience to latch on too. In Serenity though, I was holding my breath in certain parts going 'this is absolutely crazy!'. And even the crash landing part on the planet was much better executed that Revenge of the Sith, in my opinion.
Bottom line, it's a very worthwhile film, even if you have no knowledge of the Firefly universe. It managed to suprise me in a few spots and made me (and the rest of the crowd) laugh out loud in others. I recommend it, it was worth the ten bucks I paid!
EDIT (after some thinking)...
Oh, and something about Sheppard Book that came to me...
It's definitely possible that Sheppard Book was an Operative in his own right in the past. His reluctance to tell Mal about his life, plus I recall an instance in a Firefly episode where he shows his ID to an Alliance member and they act all shocked and accord him extra respect based on who he is (or was?). Anyway, a theory...
That theory sounds perfectly reasonable to me mang. Too bad we'll never really know.
Anyway I saw it tonight and it was fucking excellent. All you Whedon nay-sayers can stay away feeling confident that you won't like it, which means that for the Firefly fans, it's great.
Also why had everyone (Jayne and Kayley) lost weight? And why did Simon look so short? It was just vaguely unfamiliar, that's all.
Has anyone seen it that hasn't seen the show? I didn't try to view it objectively, so I have no idea whether other people would be able to get into it or not.

I've seen enough of Firefly to know the characters, not much more. That said, I loved Serenity.
Parts of it reminded me of other movies (Introduction - Titan A.E.; Serenity getting the Reavers to follow her - Galaxy Quest; some others), but done well enough.
While the movie held my interest throughout, it didn't fixate me until towards the end. Nothing I can explain. Truly enjoyable, though. :)
Currently fixing my Firefly shortage. A friend of a friend finally got around to letting me borrow the DVDs.

Absolutely.
I was going 'This space-battle is insane!' quickly followed by 'My God! They're destroying the ship!' to haha funny line by Wash cut off by big fucking wooden stake THROUGH Wash.. It was, ahem, intense.
Yes, that's what I thought as well. Don't worry though, Joss said that if there is a sequel (come on people, watch the movie!)
The entire cast will be back, including Ron Glass and Alan Tudyk, and that it would reveal much about Book's past
instead of a sequel to the movie, i'd rather see the tv show resarting.
they should use the success of the movie to convince the studio execs that its worthwhile - surely that makes more sense.

From my understanding, which could be wrong, Sci-Fi picked up Firefly. My bets are on (at least) another tv series.
