I've never seen the series but I've seen the movie twice now as my gf is pretty crazy about it :p I think it was much better the second time just because I had some idea of who everyone was supposed to be, and what was going on.
As Taffer36 put it:
They killed who?
... Firefly... It was some excellent TV. ... Then, of course, came Serenity. It delivered on every level for me. ... These will be dvds that I will revisit in the future.
We have a convert. :thumb:

Nice to see the return of the ellipsis, there. ;)
I want to see the film again just for Mal's amazing quickdraw skillz.

Sometimes it's just an ellipsis type of moment, ya know?
:p :cheeky:

Oh yeah, two other things:
1. MAL SHOOTS FIRST. (<3 ig)
2. I can't believe some of you horrendous faggots ranted for about 5 pages on the same dead horse topic ... oh wai

Speaking as someone who has not seen the series but had seen the movie, I thought that no real character background didn't detract from the movie. I enjoyed each of the characters, was able to grow into each character and even found myself
gasping during the deaths.
So I dunno, I think it works.
Now I need hook myself up with the series.

You won't regret it. I've been through the whole series again for the second time and I still love it! If you lived close by northern IL. I'd loan you mine.
But you'd have to let me stay & watch them with you.

ok, having just re-watched 'serenity' many times, l just have to say
HOW THE HELL DID THIS NOT MAKE MONEY?!?!? :nono: :tsktsk:  :(
this was ten times the movie that 'renege of teh shit' was. better story, better characters, better music- hell, even the fight/battle scenes were better. l particularly love how the movie starts so dramatically, with the reenactment of river's rescue, the introduction of the operative, and the frankly badass shot of serenity on entry; then, just when the brass starts to swell up in the theme the buffer panel rips off, stopping the music as abruptly as hitting the off switch. classic. it wasn't perfect by any means, but it was a lot better than its box office. l'm willing to bet that if the series had continued that we would have seen a second war for independence, with mal as a han 'general' solo figure. oh, well- woulda, coulda, shoulda, as jayne would say.
