I thought the atmosphere in Serenity was quite different than in Firefly. The whole movie felt a lot colder. Even the ship. The cargo bay which is brownish and warm in the series is steel blue in the movie.

ok now that i've finally seen it.
"meh"
i preferred the tv episodes to be honest.
dont get me wrong; Serenity is a good movie; however I disagree with a couple of things:
1. it is NOT pick-up-ab-le by people who at least dont have a fleeting idea of what Firefly was about. at times i found myself thinking that a joke was an in-joke, or that the way someone behaved was in synopsis with their tv version; but only someone who had watched the show would have appreciated it. otherwise it was just there for the sake of being there - if you get my drift.
2. fancier special effects DOES NOT MAKE IT MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR THE BIG SCREEN. it was a long tv episode; and by that count not even one of the stronger ones.
3. why oh why choose the Reavers as the "main" enemy facing humans; sure the River story is interesting an all, but the distinct lack of the blue-hand-agent dominating presence which i enjoyed in the tv show, while spending more time on an enemy who only appeared on ocassion (and then very well done) on tv - was a mistake, and was simply pandering to the mass audience.
saying that; it IS a good movie, and i'd reccomend it to any sci-fi fan. but its a long tv-episode, nothing more.
the deaths of the characters, while i knew about beforehand didnt really affect me that much; possibly due to my not connecting with them as much as i did the others.
star wars beater?
nah. episode 3 was far more enjoyable.
however they should now progress firefly by bringing it back to the small screen - no more big movies; i'd be quite happy with extended tv mini series, or one-off tv movies. nothing more though. otherwise the essence of what made it so much fun is lost - something which was lost on the big screen methinks.

saw it last night and it was shit
:(
Now I want them to make a film of that Kevin Sorbot thing. I might enjoy that. Or Stargate:GERMANY.

Friends of mine who have seen it liked it very much and are now watching the series. Sure you have a better understanding if you've seen the show, but I haven't heard anyone complain that it was difficult to understand.

Maybe it was an attempt to wrap up both the River and the Reaver story arcs in on go, in case this turns out to be Firefly's dying breath.

Woo! I am happy again!
After hitting devastating drops in their daily gross average, reaching drops as low as 69.41%, Serenity rises over the weekend by 171.19% (actually all in one day!). Keep it up Taffers!
Yes, I would really like to see the Blue Sun unraveled, but keep in mind, this is part one. All cast members are signed on for two more.
They better keep Wash and Book in through past sequences and such. It is funny, I had a look at some actual FireFly message boards. So many people are trying to find out ways for Wash NOT to be dead. Give it up people. Here's my personal favorite (quoted as best from my mind):
"You see, Wash wasn't really dead, he was just knocked unconscious. After the big finale everyone had to evacuate Serenity, and the Alliance searched the ship. They found Wash and took him for medical help. Then in the next movie/episode he will get united with Zoe!!! (Add a few LOL's and OMG's here.)" You gotta love Whedonites!:joke:
I'd say Firefly is to Star Wars what Fallout was to X-Com.
Also... Mal shot first. ;)
Well put. Couldn't have said it better myself. I very much enjoyed this movie, after just seeing it this afternoon. I definitely noticed they lifted a whole bunch of stuff from Blade Runner, but having never seen the TV series, perhaps they simply were going along with the style they had before. It was very apparent that the entire universe has a definite "MegaTokyo" type of feel to it, but I loved everything about it. In fact, I was thinking about Fallout and Blade Runner during a great many scenes in the movie. The way the antagonist in the film dispatched his foes as well, that reminded me a great deal of Equilibrium. In all, an enjoyable film. Certainly more so than Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The space battles in this film were far, FAR better. They had purpose, real drive, and yet still maintained a sense of utter chaos. Very well done indeed.
