You've got to do better than that. :erg:
Honestly, what was so good about that? Dialogue that was meant to be funny in a dire situation, where in reality no-one would ever say anything like that? I don't mean that movies or the dialogue in them has to be realistic, but that comes across as so painfully obviously scripted that it just puts me off.
What is this anyway? They picked the crappiest clips in the movie to show in previews, teasers and trailers? Normally it's the other way around: when you've seen the trailers, you've pretty much seen the best bits of the film. If these are the crappiest parts (and I really do hope so), the whole of the movie might actually be ok.

The fact that you want characters that you can relate to is understandable, but what's really special about these characters and what you saw in the intro is that they're all real, they have their own past, struggles and motives. You say that the characters are stereotypes, can you tell us then how the story ends? Are you not interested in knowing the trials and tribulations of these characters? The intro should of given you an envy to learn more about them.
I also want to add that this isn't really a contest to make you see the movie, but if these characters, and the promise of a good story do nothing to make you interested in the movie, then nothing will. You don't pick up a book and say : "this is so typical, some teenagers, a conflict, a house", you plunge into all of it and let it capture your imagination.

Dude, don't go see it. Jesus christ.

That's just it. I don't give a crap about where these characters come from or where they're going to. They're not real to me in any sense. They come across as actors delivering their lines. The trailers did nothing to make me want to find out more. They didn't make in interested in finding out how their lives will turn out. Every other character in prime-time tv has characters like that. Those clips remind me of the bits I've seen of Farscape, Dark Angel, Angel, Buffy and shows like that (none of which have grabbed my interest).
And just so you know: a stereotype character doesn't mean that you can tell how the story will unfold.

No but it does imply that the whole movie was badly constructed and didn't have a lot of thought put into it. What's that you say, the story might just be unpredictable, refreshing and surprisingly good?
Like Low Moral Fiber said, and I began to think for the last replies, don't go see it, because you seemingly miss the purpose of a story anyway.

Oh, I am
so sorry. I didn't realize this was a Serenity fanboi thread, where only comments praising the film or the Firefly series were allowed. :tsktsk:
I'm giving a perspective of someone who's considers himself a sci-fi fan, is near 40, does not follow Whedon's tv-series, and tries to understand what the fuck it is that makes this movie so special, when the trailers are so run of the mill crap that it'll make you weep.
I will buy the DVD. I'll definitely
not see Serenity in the theatre (hell, I don't see any movies in the theatre nowadays). I hope that it is good, and I have hope based on the commentary. Not based on the trailers though. They really do suck.

For your information I hate Buffy, I saw by coincidence the first Firefly TV episode and was instantly hooked, hell I didn't even know it was made by famous people.
Ironically enough, a DVD is more expensive than the theatre trip, unless you wait for price drops until technology gets to the same level as in Firefly. Why would you want to give more money to bad people who can't do a good movie, or have bad movies in your collection, you see it once and you're done with it, right?

Yeah. Perhaps I won't so you can sleep peacefully. :tsktsk:
It's sad, yet also oddly fun, to see how desperate the hard-core fans are to gain the acceptance of everyone for Firefly and Serenity.
It doesn't even seem to placate you that I've given the movie the benefit of the doubt, and will buy it on the DVD. I've only said that the trailers look like crap, basically, but I've granted that based on the reviews there's probably more to the movie.
Sorry I don't worship a Whedon pedestal.

I'm done here, because this isn't a big thing, but I could quote your last 3 paragraphs and break your arguments/statements, you should be careful as to what to write, well bye for now.
