Yep, got to see this movie before all you americanos! It was the last picture to screen at a scandinavian film festival (where also got to see MirrorMask, downright gorgeous but I'll save that for another day)
So, Serenity. Let's put it like this: if you cram a season of 24 into a two hour timespan, that's about as much serenity you're gonna get watching this film. Probably the most intense thing i've ever seen in a cinema. There's not a wasted minute of screentime.
The opening scene(s) (depending on how you see it) is great, and explains everything you need to know if you never watched Firefly in a really smart way. I watched the film with a person who had never heard of Firefly and didn't know anything about Serenity and he perfectly understood the setting, the characters and the story. (He also thought the movie fucking rocked) The opening scene also introduces the character of Chiwetel Ejiofor (I've seen him before in "Dirty pretty things" where i thought he was great, and I hear he's also in Woody Allens latest) who almost steals the show.
Most things were better than they were the series. The comedy, the drama, the action, the special effects. Simon somehow grew up and stopped being a whiny gay. Personally, I never thought it was going to be this good. It's dark, it's gritty and most importantly, it blows "Return of the Sith" so far out of the water it's not even funny. \o/
Can't say much without spoiling so I'll just answer some non-spoilery questions that were brought up in the trailer thread. No, there is no sound in space (only in atmosphere), and no, it's not the story from the series recycled for the big-screen. And River is made of chocolate.
Definitely worth seeing.
Even Aerothorn should like this :p
but don't hold me to that
There's a slightly contradictory fashion to the opening. I do believe you hear the gun they staple to the back of the ship fire at the end when they blow up the reaver ship. Personally, the only annoying thing was seeing the interior redesigned.
I felt horrible when Firefly was cancelled, but then they got on the big screen, so it must be good for the franchise. Nice to hear.

I'm pretty sure a badly-compressed video of Joss Whedon masturbating into a trumpet blows "Return of the Sith" out of the water.

Okay I have to see it for that. I'm not familiar with Firefly but I've always wanted to see an actiony sci-fi done without sound.
