Selling my videocard on ebay.. Should I disclose that I have overclocked it? - by io organic industrialism

Thinking about selling my Geforce 7800 GS AGP on ebay. Looks like you can still get over $100 for these. I have had it overclocked by about 25% for over two years now. But I'm torn over whether I should mention this in the auction
On the one hand, there are the people who may pay more because they know they are guaranteed the extra performance
On the other hand, there are people who would pay less because they think overclocking may have damaged the components or lessens the lifespan of the card.
Will those even out? Or should I just not mention it at all. Maybe I would just say "these have the capacity to be overclocked approximately 25%".

I've been thinking over the same thing for my 8800 GTX (although I don't have it OCed anymore). I think the best thing to do is say that it has been tested to run well at X.

That should not be for you to decide ... just tell the truth.

I had no trouble selling my old 6800 for a fair price when mentioning my overclock results, but it also had a good aftermarket cooler on it.

agree'd
I for one would be pissed if the seller didn't disclose overclocking. Then again, buying any used parts you should always assume the worst.

I would run some sort of stability testing and include the results in your auction to reassure your potential bidders.

Caveat emptor, baby!! This is ebay not Nordstrom's. ;)
Unless you care about seller ratings.

Disclose the overclocking - hiding information from your customers is pretty asinine.

Selling a card without mentioning that it ran OC'd is like selling a car or bike and raking the shite out of it before the sale. So yes do tell.
At worst a couple of people who are aware of such things might avoid it. But others who just want a cheap card that can still perform nicely, and know that it can run OC'd stable will be drawn to the sale.

If you don't disclose then you will become part of all that is wrong with ebay. Try sleeping at night with THAT on your conscience.
