I just defeated Morrowind a few days ago and ended up with a whole pile of expensive (glass, ebony, daedric, etc.) weapons and items stockpiled in Casius's house because I couldn't find anyone in the game that had enough money to buy them. All I was able to do was buy an expensive enchantment from the enchantress in ghostgate, and then immediately sell an item to her to reimburse myself. Am I missing something here? Or is there some other way to pawn off these valuable items?

That's one way to sell 'em; the other two are to either make your own ultra-wealthy merchant via the Construction Set (ie: the editor), or the slow-and-painful method of selling expensive items.
Basically, you sell the merchant some things, wait until his gold resets, and repeat that until the items he has equals the price of your one big item... then trade his stuff for your one item.

Well depending if you have the expansion packs you could go to mournhold or solsteim and sell what you got to those merchants they have more money than anybody ive encountered in vvardenfell or however you spell it. Of course that depends how expensive your items are. Other than that i dont know

I think part of the reason these items have such high prices are that you're not really intended to sell these items. (otherwise there would have been more merchants with higher gold amounts and/or the items would have lower prices).
My latest character has sold a few of his more expensive items, but mostly I've been collecting them (or just leaving them lay where I find them). Much of the stuff is very heavy (even for my character).

In that case there's a very old trick. Kill everybody you want to kill (in a cave, stronghold, dwelmer ruins, wherever). Collect all the items in one place. Take them. You are overwighted, but of course you have Alumsi (sp) Intervention spell (sroll, enchanted item) with you. Use it and you can unload and sell everything you stole.

If this is the case, then I'd have to say that was poor planning on the part of the creators of the game...What is a thief supposed to do with a glass halberd, axe or other heavy items if he can't sell them, except by rather tedious means?

A thief in real life is hardly renowned for selling items at full market value are they.

True, but he also wouldn't settle for 2500 gold when something is worth 25,000 gold. I just think that if the items are in the game (possibly excluding artifacts) and have a value, then there should be an easier way to sell them. Someone has to make the items, so logically one would think that someone would be able to afford to buy them. Are the adventuring characters such as my thief the only ones with money?

If you look carefully, all the other heroes, adventurers, and legends are dead.
Or you killed them :)

There are plenty of things that you could steal in this world that most people wouldn't be able to buy from you, that they didn't have the cash... you're only looking at a small part of this world, and much of the expensive items seem to be handed down from one person to another (why else would they give you things like Ebony armor as rewards for quests).
That's not to say you can't sell it, you can use Creeper and Mudcrab, as well as the traders on Mournhold, but it's going to be a sell, wait, sell, wait, sell, wait, sell big item, wait, sell, etc, etc, etc.
Sell all the little crap, collect the big stuff and/or do the above item shuffle with the richer traders.
Frankly without buying my way up the ladder, I'm still getting pretty Uber, and I've got a fair amount of cash to throw around if I want. Not in the 300,000 mark like my 2nd character was (since he was using Mudcrab alot), but still a respectable 60,000+ (and I've paid some good money for some enchantments, even wasted quite a few drakes on some stinkers).
