Yeah, agreed. I'm just saying it felt like a kind of slow trap where I didn't realize until too late so it felt unfair when I did realize. There are tons of messages and stuff happening so this got jumbled in with the rest I guess and I didn't realize the implications. Not the end of the world though.
I checked back and found the save where it first appeared but it's too far back (28th Feb) so looks like the cure quest for me. Saving the Empire will have to wait. Not had time to play this since though.

Oh, I forgot - if you install or have installed the Vile Lair official plug-in, it has an instant vampire cure built in (can't remember if you need to upgrade the dwelling first, though).

I'll keep that in mind for the future if needed. Meanwhile I've found some time to play and found the witch so am on my way. Might be a fun quest anyways.:)
